Day 08 - A song that you know all the words to

Aug 24, 2010 23:42

It's strange, there are lots of songs I think I know all the words to but when I come to write them all down I actually don't. Even songs I know very well that I will happily sing along to have bits where I have blind spots and lalala through middle eight or I just know the first verse and choruses.

After a few false starts I found something that I knew all the way through - except for the bit at the end where I don't have a clue what he's singing.

Morrissey: Suedehead

Why do you come here?
And why do you hang around?

I'm so sorry
I'm so sorry

Why do you come here?
When you know it makes things hard for me.
When you know
Oh why do you come?

Why do you telephone?
And why send me silly notes?

I'm so sorry
I'm so sorry

Why do you come here?
When you know it makes things hard for me.
When you know
Oh why do you come?

You had to sneak into my room
Just to read my diary
It was just to see, just to see
All the things you knew I'd written about you
Oh so many illustrations
Oh but I am so very sickened
Oh I am so sickened now

No idea why this stuck in my head for over 20 years. Viva Hate was my introduction to Morrissey and The Smiths and I guess I was at just the right age for Morrissey lyrics to seem incredibly deep and significant. Thinking about it I probably know the words to an awful lot of Smiths songs (This Charming Man, Ask, Panic, Bigmouth Strikes Again). I'm sure that says *something* about me, I'm just not sure what...
