It has to be something mawkish, probably by Paul McCartney. I'm thinking one of those god-awful saccharine Beatles ballads. Ahh yes, I have of the perfect song!
The Beatles: The Long & Winding Road
All sorts of reasons I hate this song. I think the main one is that my Dad was in a choir when I was a kid and as well as all the usual Rogers and Hammerstein numbers they used to do this song. Hence I very much associate this song with being bored out of my brains at one of their rehearsals or concerts.
From a musical point of view it is just of one those songs that highlights everything that was wrong with The Beatles (though possibly not as much as 'A Day In The Life' - which is hugely over-rated and is basically two completely different songs rammed together with a bit of Ligety pastiche). You've got a band in disarray falling out with their producer and Paul McCartney being a total diva. It's just *so* bland and there is nothing that incites me more than blandness.
The Beatles were capable of great things, which is what makes monstrosities like this all the offensive... At least it isn't on an album worth having (unlike 'Here There And Everywhere' which sits like a particularly ugly boil on an otherwise flawless and beautiful album) - every cloud and all that.
