Chapter 26. Last First Date

The party was coming to an end but the night was still young. Everyone was having a blast - dancing, singing, drinking, having a great time. Some people had decided to relocate to one of their dorms to continue whilst others had stayed in the bar.

Asuka was still being interrogated by Jay when something hot grabbed her wrist and she was pulled outside and found herself pressed up against a wall. She could recognise that touch on her hand and the hot aura emitting off the person in front of her. She looked up and found herself staring into two dark brown orbs. That single ray of light emitting from the street light fell perfectly behind him, illuminating his tall figure.

"Hey."

It was that deep, husky voice again that she would melt at any time she heard it. She wanted to tell him to move. To let go of her so she could go back inside. That she didn't want to see him. Not now. She couldn't face him anymore but another part of her wanted him there. To hold her and never let her go. She started to shiver as a gust of wind had gone past and he instinctively moved closer.

"We can't keep avoiding each other like this. I know you said that we could only be friends but what if we didn't have to. Not being able to see you, I'm dying.” He closed his eyes as he moved his face closer to hers.

“Taec, I’m leaving,” her words came out in a hushed but hurried tone.

“I know. Friday right?” Her gaze turned towards their feet. He lifted her chin up and softly planted his lips onto hers.

Asuka gently pulled away from Taecyeon and leaned her head against the wall. “I told you we can’t. I can’t…do this to you,” her voice grew quiet.

“Just gimmie the night and I'll show you." She looked away again. He hushed her before she could reply. “Stop saying you can’t. Let us just be us for tonight,” he brought his eyes level with her. “You and me,” his voice came out as a whisper.

“I don’t know what you’re asking of me, Taec,” her eyes were captivated in his. As much she wanted to not be here, in front of him, and just run, she couldn’t bring herself to move, to escape Taecyeon’s hold. But the warmth of his breath and the touch of his hand on her bare shoulder made her want to stay in that position.

"I'm asking you to be my girlfriend," Asuka just stared at Taecyeon like he was crazy. "This is my last night with you. Let me spend it with my girlfriend,"

"What are you-what do you?” Asuka stuttered as she tried to make sense of what Taecyeon had said. Taecyeon chuckled at how caught off guard Asuka was.

"We'll go through a relationship in one night. The first date, the first kiss...” Taecyeon drifted off as Asuka's gaze met back with his.

"Okay," she took a deep breath and pushed him back a little, “I’ll do whatever you want. I’m all yours for the night Ok Taecyeon.”

Their comfortable silence was interrupted when the club door swung wide open banging against the wall.

“Ugh, where’s Suka-noona and Taecyeon-hyung?” Chansung rushed out complaining. Junsu was trying to calm him down with the rest of 2PM and Jay following behind. Taecyeon brought his mouth towards Asuka’s ear.

“Should we get out of here?”

She chuckled but agreed to it anyway. He grabbed her by the wrist and dragged her in the opposite direction the boys were going. They were still in formal dress when they arrived at a late night café five hundred metres from the club.

Asuka looked up to see the lit up green and orange sign before entering the café. There were booths all along the wall and a few tables in the middle. It was a reasonably small café but there were still customers. Luckily none of them recognised Taecyeon. He led her to a back corner booth and sat across her. The waiter provided them with two menus.

“I’m not that hungry, Taec. We already had dinner,” she whispered shielding one side of her face with the menu. Taecyeon found this cute. This girl who supposedly loved food did not want to eat.

“How about dessert?”

Before Asuka could protest he had already called over the waiter and ordered a large bowl of ice-cream. Shortly after, the waiter brought out their order. Asuka was surprised at what was in front of her. Taecyeon thanked the waiter and told him that they didn’t need anything else. (He was getting annoyed as the waiter’s eyes were on Asuka the whole time and he wouldn’t leave.)

“How did you…” she stared at the bowl of green tea ice-cream between them.

“Jang Wooyoung,” he simply replied.

Asuka chuckled, that boy really couldn’t keep secrets. He was the only one who knew her love for ice-cream and her favourite flavour.

“So Suka, tell me about yourself,” she gave Taecyeon a sceptical look. “Like something I don’t already know,” Asuka still didn’t reply. “Like what you like either than what you’re studying. Wait, what are you actually studying? You’re like in the fashion field or something, right?” she nodded.

“Yeah, either being a stylist or buyer. Other than that I have this huge love for music, like I can’t live without it. Whether it be playing music or listening to it.”

Asuka took a scoop of ice-cream. Taecyeon saw the similarities between her and Wooyoung. Take away everything from them besides music and ice-cream and they’d probably survive fine. They could seriously be twins.

“Really? Well you could be the next big thing!” Taecyeon teased. Asuka gave a small laugh. “Oh, I always wondered, what got you into k-pop in the first place?” he had always been surprised at how much Asuka knew. Even though Nichkhun was in the industry, he was sure she got into the Korean entertainment way before then.

“Actually Jody introduced me to it. The first song I heard was Big Bang’s Haru Haru. Ever since then I began to fall more and more in love with k-pop. Although I still do listen to English songs,”

“I always thought that it was the Dong Bang Shin Ki-hyungs that got you into it,” so Big Bang ae? Yeah they were good but they hadn’t done much in a while, in Korea anyway. He had met them a few times but Junsu was the closest to them, nearly choosing to be in YGE and all. Asuka nodded.

“I never really liked DBSK. They’re good singers and all but I prefer 2AM over them,” she placed her elbows on the table and sucked on her spoon, “but I’m more of a Hottest now than a VIP. HottestVIP I guess you could say,” Taecyeon chuckled at the last comment. HottestVIP, has a nice ring to it. “I’m guessing you’re a Girl’s Generation fan,” Taecyeon’s expression was suddenly cold. He opened his mouth but closed it again. There was a brief silence. “Sorry. I’ll pretend I never said anything,” she looked down at the bowl.

“So you’re a 2PM fan. You don’t seem like the screaming fangirl, obsessive type,” Taecyeon was being completely serious.

“Well that’s ‘cause I’m not Taec. You know that. I am a fan girl, all the screaming happens on the inside. I think the boys are scared enough with the screaming,” Asuka replied casually.

“You have a favourite member?” Taecyeon teased.

“This is what you ask on a first date?” she cocked an eyebrow.

“Just answer the question,”

“Fine,” Asuka pretended to think about this for a moment.  He was pretty sure what her answer was but this was a first date right? Just two people having dessert.

“Umm, I’d have to say…Jang Wooyoung,” she replied with a smile.

I knew it- wait what? Wooyoungie?

She watched a shocked expression grow on Taecyeon’s face and couldn’t help but laugh. He caught her laughing and threw a ball of tissue he scrunched up at her but she dodged it and he ended up hitting the old man sitting behind her. He bowed and said sorry as Asuka was covering her mouth trying not to laugh. He mouthed a “hey!” to her and she attempted to pull a straight face but failed.

After Asuka finished with her laughing fit and Taecyeon was still in a foul mood when they moved outside the café. It was 11:00pm but the café had started to get busier. People were starting to stare (and not because of Taecyeon and his giant height. The two were still in formal dress.)

“I had a good time tonight. Uhh…I hope we can do it again sometime,” Taecyeon tried to say casually as he looked at the stars. A small smile grew on Asuka’s face. He’d known him since he debuted but she had never seen him act so…nervous before?

“Me too. Especially the part where you hit that grandpa,” she said as he looked down on her. She tried to hide the laughter in her voice but Taecyeon didn’t mind. He was too absorbed in the stars reflecting in her big, brown orbs. She looked away embarrassed before feeling something pull her face towards his. The gap closed in between them as their lips softly met. They pulled away slowly, both slightly blushing.

“First date? Check. First kiss? Check,” Taecyeon said aloud in a whisper. Asuka gave a soft chuckle as she let her feet fall to the ground. Even with heels she still had to go on her tip toes to reach Taecyeon.

“Well, get home safely okay. I’ll call you,” Taecyeon said before walking off leaving Asuka lost, still standing in front of the café.

“Wait, what? That’s it?” she shouted after him but he had managed to disappear into the shadows. She felt a vibration in her pocket (yes her dress had one) and took out her phone. She smiled to herself before composing herself and answered the phone.

“Hello?” she answered.

“Suka! It’s me, Taec,” his voice cheery. She hid a small laugh.

“Who?” she tried to convince him that she didn’t know.

“Uhh, Ok Taecyeon. The guy who took you out for dessert?” Taecyeon felt a little hurt by this.

“A guy took me out to dessert?”

“Yeah, it was--” her laughing stopped him mid-sentence and he realised she was just playing for the second time that night. This was what made him attracted to this girl in the first place. You never know what she was up to.

“I was wondering…maybe we could go on a second date. Where are you now?” Asuka couldn’t help but feel the grin on her face grow even wider.

“Of course!” her voice came out to high than she intended to. She coughed, trying to regain her composure, “I’m actually outside--”

“Okay. I’ll be right there, don’t move okay?” he cut her off and before she could reply he had already hung up.

What was it with these boys hanging up on people?  They were all the same.

Asuka leaned against the wall outside the café when she saw a tall figure from the corner of her eye. It had only been a few minutes since Taecyeon had called. Well he couldn’t have gotten far considering all these ‘dates’ were happening on the same day, one after the other.

“That was fast,” Asuka said as Taecyeon stopped in front of her. “I know you’re the one who called but I wanna take you somewhere this time,” she felt a little embarrassed asking that. Taecyeon looked confused but Asuka didn’t say anything and just grabbed his hand and led the way.

“Where are you taking me, Suka? We’ve been walking for ten minutes,” Taecyeon began to complain. He didn’t understand how much this girl could walk, in a short dress (he had a huge worry that it would blow up since it was quite windy tonight) and in five inch heels too. She didn’t reply and kept walking. She was still holding his hand and the thought made Taecyeon’s heart skip.

“Are we there--” he didn’t finish his sentence as he felt Asuka stop.

“We’re here,” they stopped in front of what looked like an amusement park. “It’s not an amusement park, but it’s pretty damn similar,” she turned to smile at Taecyeon before walking ahead of him.

“Hey, wait up!” he shouted behind her.

She stopped in her tracks and spun around to look at him. He smiled at the sight of that. She looked like a little kid in the middle of the playground.

“How did you find this place? It’s, really beautiful.”

The only lights around the park were the street lights and the stars and moon. There was a big slide to the right, near the trees, a few swings in the middle, a Ferris wheel, what seemed like a roller coaster and some snack bars and tables. It really was similar to an amusement park but more park than the amusement.

“Whenever someone had taken me around Seoul we’d almost always seem to pass this place. So one day I decided to come down here. It wasn’t a busy place, there were people here but not as packed as say Lotte World. Since then I had begun to come to this place ever since, well as much as I could during my time in Seoul.

“Anytime anyone was busy, and well that was most of the time, I would spend my afternoons lazing about here. I think I’ve been on all the rides more than I can count, besides that roller coaster,” she walked towards the Ferris wheel’s controls and after a few seconds it lit up.

“Shall we?” she gestured for Taecyeon to hop on the wheel.

“Are you sure about this? Like, are we allowed- wait how did you even know how to turn it on?” Taecyeon wasn’t surprised at what Asuka could do but he was worried. He didn’t want to be in the headlines tomorrow: ‘Ok Taecyeon seen sneaking in Amusement Park after hours.’

Asuka read the worried expression on Taecyeon’s face and couldn’t help but laugh.

“HEY! What are you laughing at?” he was starting to get annoyed.

“Taec, quit worrying. I happen to know the owner and she gave me an all-access pass to the park,” she smiled before pushing him into one of the seats on the wheel.

Once the two sat down, Asuka automatically latched onto Taecyeon’s arm. It was weird as she wasn’t the clingy type, not that Taecyeon knew of anyway, and he was surprised. He wasn’t one to complain though.

“You scared of heights or something?” she nodded, embarrassed. “Then why did you bring me up here?” the wheel had stopped at the top and overlooked the city.

“Well I thought it’d be less scary with someone else. And I wanted to show you this,” she motioned to the lit city across them. “It’s beautiful right?” Taecyeon’s gaze averted from her and towards the scene below them. “I came here on my last day in Seoul last time. I promised myself that if I came back here, I would share this with someone,” she spoke to no one in particular as she stared across the city.

He took of his jacket and placed it around her shoulders. She instinctively placed her head on his shoulder. Taecyeon could’ve sworn his heart stopped then and there. He entwined his fingers with hers as they sat and watched the night city in silence.

“I know I already asked you this but I have to, again. You know, to make it official and stuff,” Asuka lifted her head and turned to look at Taecyeon.

“What do you mean?”

“W-will you be my…girlfriend?” Taecyeon stuttered. Asuka grinned.

“Do I have to call you ‘oppa’?” Asuka teased. Taecyeon gave her a playful push before putting on a serious expression.

“Is that a yes?”

“Yes,” Asuka couldn’t hide the smile on her face and neither could Taecyeon. The wheel had made a full round and they were back on ground level.

He helped Asuka off the wheel and didn’t let go of her hand. The warmth of her hand spread throughout his body and he didn’t want to let go.

“Now what?” Asuka said. He was surprised she hadn’t let go of his hand or flinched at his touch. She must’ve been serious when she said she was his tonight.

He felt a vibration in his pocket and hesitantly let go of Asuka’s hand as he reached into his left pocket. He looked down to see the caller ID: Chansungie.

“You know it won’t stop ringing if you stare at it like that.”

He hadn’t realised the phone was still ringing.

“Take it. It must be important if they were to call this late,” Taecyeon nodded and walked near the closed stalls out of ear shot from Asuka.

“Yeobo--”

“Taecyeon-hyuunngg! Where are you? And where’s Sukaaaa?” Taecyeon laughed at the whining maknae.

“Taec, I swear if anything happens to her--”

“Don’t mind Khun, Taecyeon-ah, he’s just being paranoid,”

“Taecyeon-hyung, if you want, we can stay at Jody’s place tonight--”

“--so you and Suka can have the whole place to yourself if-yah-know-what-I-mean,”

“That birthday present may become useful tonight, Taec. Don’t worry. I won’t interrupt you this time,”

Taecyeon didn’t even get to greet his members as they all bombarded him with messages. “Yah, yah, yah. Guys, is there a reason you called other than, whatever it is you’re doing,” the line went silent before the members erupted again. “GUYS!”

Asuka’s hand suddenly felt cold without the touch of Taecyeon’s. She walked over and sat herself on one of the swings. The smile on her face had faded at the thought of tonight being the last night she would have with Taecyeon, and how she may never see him again. The conversation she had earlier with Jay replayed in her head.

Jay walked towards Asuka who was talking to some girls from Girl’s Generation. He bowed before dragging her away. She shouted a “thank you” before she was out of sight.

Jay dragged her to a corner booth and sat her down. She didn’t have a good feeling about this. She could identify that look in Jay’s eyes anywhere. She was in for a long talk, and not a good one.

“Why didn’t you say anything?” the carefree leader was gone and was now replaced with the serious leader. Asuka kept her gaze on the table. “Hey, answer me.”

“What was I supposed to say? ‘Taec, I can’t be with you because of my commitment issues and by the way, I’m leaving this Friday and may never come back’ is that what you want?” her tone had been harsh as she looked at Jay straight in the eye.

“Well he knows,”

“I figured. As do the rest of you right?” Jay nodded.

“You can’t keep doing this to him,” Asuka stayed silent. “Stop second guessing yourself. It’s not like you. You’re the type of person who just goes for it…”

“Says you,’ she mumbled under her breath.

“Is that why you’ve been avoiding him tonight?” Jay questioned.

“I’m not- what are you--” Asuka stuttered.

“According to him you are. He was complaining how you didn’t even say hi to him let alone an acknowledgement,” Jay was back to his teasing ways. “I thought you liked him.”

“I do like him!” her eyes widened at her own quick response. Her cheeks were flush as she brought her hands to cover her face. Jay could only laugh as he tried to pry her hands away from her.

A guitar melody interrupted her thoughts. She reached for her phone and found a message to be from none other than Jay Park.

Enjoy your night with Taecyeonnie. I’m sure you will hehe
P.S. Dorm’s all yours tonight so you two will have NO interruptions ;)

A smile crept on her face as she read the message. Jay really was Taecyeon’s best friend. A hand on the small of her back brought her back to the present. She felt her swinging back and forth. She didn’t need to look to see who it was.

“Let me guess, that was the guys right?” she showed Taecyeon her recent message.

“They got to you too huh?” Taecyeon continued pushing the girl on the swing. “So does that mean we’re supposed to go back to the dorm?”

“You think they made a candlelit runway with rose petals leading to your bedroom?” Asuka teased.

“You watch too many shows,” Taecyeon replied with a chuckle.

“Hey, I bet you were thinking that too,” Taecyeon kept quiet as Asuka laughed.

“Is there anywhere you wanna go?” he took a seat on the swing next to her. “Considering tonight’s probably the only night we’ll have--”

“Namsan tower,” she blurted out.

“Hmm?”

“Namsan tower,” she repeated slowly. “Everyone talks about it and it’s always on Korean dramas, so I wanna see what all the fuss is about,” she looked down and chewed on her bottom lip.

“Okay.”

Asuka turned towards Taecyeon, eyes widened. “Huh?”

“It’s not far so we can walk,” he got up off the swing and stood in front of her. “Let’s go.”

He pulled her up by the shoulders and led the way. She was still standing by the swings, stunned, when his voice caught her attention.

“You coming?” he shouted. Asuka jogged towards him.

They were walking side by side, their hands brushing against one another every so often, as they walked the night streets of Seoul. Taecyeon grabbed Asuka’s hand in his as he pulled her closer to catch up with him. She didn’t let go even after she was walking at the same pace as him.

“I’m sorry,” Asuka suddenly said after a long silence.

“Why are you apologising?”

“I should’ve told you when I found out,”

“Is that why you…” she nodded. “When did you…”

“Just after we got home yesterday,”

“Do you know if you’ll be able to visit again?” Taecyeon asked cautiously. Asuka just shook her head as she kept her gaze on the ground.

“I won’t forget tonight, Taec. Thank you,” her voice was still quiet.

“What for?” Taecyeon stopped walking.

“Just, thank you,” she looked up at him. “Why’d we stop?” he motioned to the building behind him.

There was nobody around save for a few late workers. The body of the tower was lit up in a light blue colour and the tip was lit up in a yellowish glow. Asuka couldn’t take her eyes off it. Taecyeon smiled to himself. He truly wanted this night to be special, and if it meant taking her everywhere then so be it.

“Is…it what you imagined it to be?” he saw a smile creep on Asuka’s lips. She shook her head as she bit her bottom lip. “No?”

“No. It’s better,” she said timidly.

“How so?” Asuka let go of Taecyeon’s hand and stood in front of him. She pulled her face closer to hers.

“Because you’re here,” she whispered as their face was now inches away from each other.

“And I thought I was greasy,” Taecyeon smirked before Asuka pulled her face closer to his and planted her lips on his. “You know we won’t be able to go in right?” she nodded and smiled.

After they had walked around the Namsan steps, they reached 2PM’s dorm. Taecyeon turned the key and as soon as he opened the door he shook his head in disbelief.

“What’s wrong?” he pushed Asuka towards the door and her mouth dropped at the sight. “No way,” they both stood there in shock.

The dorm was set up just how Asuka joked about before. There was a candlelit runway, starting from the front door till the hallway onwards. Rose petals marked the runway and made it look a red carpet.

“Daebak,” Taecyeon said, more to himself than anyone. He walked into the dorm and Asuka followed close behind. He heard Asuka start chuckling. “What’s so funny?”

“This.”

She motioned to the set-up in front of them. “What did your members expect us to do huh? You press me up against the wall and kiss me senseless. Then we enter the dorm, our clothes fly off along this ‘runway’ as you lead me into your room where you--”

“You just totally ruined that for me,” he cut her off before she could voice her vivid imagination. He walked into the kitchen and came out with two glasses and a bottle sparkling grape juice.

“You couldn’t afford wine?” Asuka said as she sat in the middle of the living area beside the coffee table. She rearranged the candles so that they lit the living area and she put the rose petals in circle to sit on.

“What happened to that fantasy of yours?” Taecyeon placed the bottle and glasses on the coffee table. Asuka took the bottle and opened it. “Professional are we?”

“High school course,” she poured the juice into each of the glasses. “And it’s no fantasy. It’s your typical ‘love scene’ you know,” she lifted her glass and touched it against Taecyeon’s. “Cheers,”

“You really do watch a lot of dramas,” Taecyeon teased. “So, if that isn’t your fantasy, then what is?” Asuka scoffed at the question.

“Taec, you really wanna know?” she smirked.

Taecyeon nodded slowly, he didn’t know what he would be getting into but he knew if this was Asuka that it wouldn’t be anything innocent.
