Pot Luck Christmas

Dec 25, 2009 18:00

In a full blown South Dakota blizzard; the first in all my years I can remember on Christmas Day. I was invited to a nearby town and when I pulled up the blinds this morning, it was a real blizzard, and I knew I was not going any place today. Shortly after my neighbor called and said, can we bring dinner over this afternoon, and I said sure, and we can call others, so it ended up there were nine of us at the table, could have had more, but they didn’t want to face the weather and I understood that explanation. What a great bunch of people we have in this little village.

My other neighbor called it a pot luck Christmas, and that is just what it was,  there was enough food for twice as many, or more, great food, great company and all of us know the value of each other, and the value of friendship.

So, now all it quiet, the forecast says it will continue into tomorrow late afternoon, I do hope they are wrong, it can and perhaps is a killer storm. The little village I live in happens to be in a river valley and it is never as bad down here as it is up on the flats, so I cannot imagine what it must be up there. When I lived on the ranch, we were in the flats, and times we could not see out corral, so far, I can still see across the street most of the time, but one of those who was here today called and said they had to roll the windows down and look out to see the street, another two had to shovel to get into their house. I am so glad I am in my snug little house, listening to great music on my cd player, my Giddy is snuggled up tight, and I hope the outside cats have gone to the neighbors or to the elevator.  I did not get their houses reset for them before this storm caught up with me, and I cannot do it by myselfe, and I feel bad for them, but they all made it before they came here, so hopefully they will make it through this one.

I haven’t had tv on today, sometimes it is just nice to go through a few hours without it blaring at me with all the bad news that is going on, though last night it was nice, after I returned home from oyster stew at the neighbors, I turned it on and there was a lot of nice Christmas greetings and families from the satellite I watch (not saying which one!),it was very nice.

With these lines I am hoping if any of you are in the track of this storm that you are safe and warm and enjoying your family and friends as I did today. Another Christmas nearly over and it was a wonderful one.
