MERRY CHRISTMAS
And A
HAPPY NEW YEAR
FROM FAYZEE IN SOUTH DAKOTA
The adventures of 2009 have been some of the usual activities yours truly enjoys; trips to the cabin among the highlights, visits from friends, most enjoyable, drives to the Black Hills with friends, and for the most part, this old woman stays fairly healthy. Toting the SOB oxygen around makes me keep some of the muscle I had lost, and it keeps the storekeepers hopping to yell at me as I walk away and leave it sitting where I placed it; they watch me very close and make certain I have picked up the ox bottle before it crashes to the floor.
The spiritual journey to the top of Medicine Mountain in Wyoming to view the Medicine Wheel was something I had dreamed about for many years, and a good friend made it possible. I am eternally grateful to her for giving me one of the most pleasurable moments in my life. I cannot describe the feeling I had when we reached the summit, and there, before my very eyes, was that wondrous spiritual Medicine Wheel. High in the Little Bighorns of Wyoming, ten thousand feet, the
Wheel measures eighty feet across, twenty eight spokes and eight cairns. It wasn’t Stonehenge, which I have always wanted to see, but it is the nearest thing I will ever see to Stonehenge and I am so happy we made the drive. I recommend it as a once in a lifetime experience.
It was late in the Spring before any time could be spent at the cabin, we had rains and late snows, very welcome, my little dam was nearly filled, so it was ready for any fish I could find. My trapper friend had to catch a couple skunks first thing. They just will not leave me alone, so the carpenter filled up the places they always dig out with cement, hoping that will discourage them. The game camera caught several skunks, raccoons, lots of does and fawns, one cute little pack rat, a cottontail that loves having its picture taken, a jackrabbit, and a badger, and, oh, yes, one porcupine, but so far, no mountain lion. Will I be that lucky?
The rattlesnake ventures were few this year, only one at the cabin, and the hunting at the dens was late, though we found several one day, from then on it was too cold for them to come out, so hope when Spring arrives, I hope I will be there to see them come out.
Wishing you and yours a most joyous Christmas and a wonderful 2010
