Author: Fayth
Show/Ship: Doctor Who/ Reinette/Rose- Yeah you read that Right.
Genre: Gah, don't ask.
Disclaimer: I don't own this. I wish.
Summary: Reinette has a surprise for Rose. I'd be surprised, are you surprised?
A/N- Uh, this came to me at work when I was trying to think of some HappyWho prompts. It was a whole fic set after GITF but I don't write slash and def not femslash so this won't be written anywhere but in my head. This scene, however had to come out and maybe one other. Bugger. I probably won't post this anywhere else, so if you find it and want someone else to read it you'll have to direct 'em here.
Reinette moved closer and Rose stiffened, her back straight as she placed the book back in its place.
“I was telling the truth, Rose. In all my life I have loved one man and that was the King. What I felt for him was a love of a woman for her country and her ruler. You have a King in England still?”
“Queen,” Rose corrected. “Queen Elizabeth the second.”
Reinette smiled gently. “I love my country, Rose. I love my King. Being his mistress allowed all sorts of advantages that I had never dreamed. But I was lonely., until one day.”
Oh, God, Rose didn’t want to hear this. Didn’t want to hear how Reinette had met and fallen for the Doctor. Her presence on board the TARDIS was till too painful, too fresh.
“One day I met someone I could love again.”
Rose closed her eyes.
“Her name was Gabrielle.”
Rose’s eyes flew open and she stared at Reinette in shock. Reinette was looking down at her new jeans and shirt, playing with the uncomfortable fabric nervously.
“She had eyes the blue of summer skies. She had a joy of life and love of the world and her place in it. She taught me not to rail against fate but to accept, to take what pleasures in life I could have and turn them into life itself. She was so very beautiful.”
Reinette ran her fingers over the spines of the books, looking at Rose’s shocked face from the corner of her eye.
“The King allowed us to be close because he had no idea of our relationship. He was a jealous man, had he known-”
She trailed off and chanced a look at Rose.
“You remind me of her somewhat. Brave, beautiful, loyal to a fault,” she gave a short tinkling laugh and looked away again. “Despite all my court training my defences fall away when you are near, Rose Tyler. I met you once and I followed you.”
Rose shook her head. “You kissed the Doctor, you were married. You followed the Doctor, your ‘lonely angel’. Now, what? You’re trying to get me to stay. You like lording it over me, yeah, the fact that you’re beautiful and accomplished and can have any man you like? I’m not stupid you know, no matter what he’s said!” she swallowed a lump in her throat. “Stupid apes and all that. Well I’m not stupid. You want me to feel inferior to you. I do, all right? I never did A’ levels, I don’t have a future back on Earth because I was in a dead end job. I don’t have servants or a big house, I don’t even have Mickey any more. All I had was me and the Doctor and you’ve taken the Doctor. All I have is me.” Rose straightened, her eyes flashing dangerously. “They may have taught you how to manipulate people, Madame, but not me. I see through you and I won’t let you do this.”
Reinette looked helpless as Rose slammed the last book back into its place and turned to go.
“Then I’ll show you.” She grabbed Rose’s hood and pushed her against the bookshelf in a rare show of strength and, before Rose could attack, plastered her lips against Rose’s.
It lasted long enough for Rose’s eyes to widen and Reinette’s assault to gentle, leaving her to pull away reluctantly and press her lips together as if to savour the taste.
Rose blinked and her mouth opened and closed. She said nothing and Reinette bit her lip. “Believe me or not, Rose, it is not the Doctor who I desire.”
Rose watched her walk away, her carriage as graceful and elegant as if she were wearing full ball gown and not a pair of jeans.
Her hand made its way to her lips, trembling as she summed up the whole surreal half hour.
“Bloody hell!”
