On the Ground

Hey everyone-

SO The wedding is over, and now I have this afternoon to take a breather before I head into the crazy research mode on Monday. Jet lag has been interesting,...but now that my mother is in town and wants to chat with friends to 3am...my time frame is still a little out of wack. Yesterday two of my earliest childhood friends got married, and it was beautiful. Not only was I able to see old friends and dance the night away but I was able to be re-immersed in a culture that believes in marriage...and people are still married when they are old...I couldn't think of a more beautiful thing (especially after being in image focused LA) then people who are loving each other all the way to wrinkles and old age, where they still dance like they were 20 (and plastic surgery wouldnt make you more loveable to the other person).

I will be heading into meetings with the mayor and director of the development programs in Kayamundi tomorrow, so I will hopefully be off to a good start with getting a grib on the effectiveness of various projects and methods used in community development.

I am sure I will soon be using these posts as a way to form dialog with all you fellow UCLA-IDS-ers to discuss some of the theories we have been wrestling with.

I must run, as the connection here is slow, and the cash is running low-

all my best till next time.
