RELATIONSHIPS
Quadrants
Wataru Kurenai
”I've got you. It's okay, you're all right. I'm here.”
Wataru was Gamzee’s first moirail. After witnessing Gamzee in his worst moments of sobriety, even being the person that held Gamzee down while Karkat killed him, Wataru was still willing to become Gamzee’s moirail, a concept he was not even familiar with before meeting him, just to help Gamzee and give him a second chance. And for that Gamzee is forever grateful.
Their moirallegience was not the stuff of legends. Honestly, by troll standards, it was probably a bizarre union and yet it worked. It was not perfect, with both of them fucking up on occasion, but in the end their goals were united enough for them to last for several months, a period of time throughout which Wataru helped Gamzee get on a better, more efficient slime schedule, as well as help him deal with the fall out of what he had done while sober. If it wasn’t for Wataru staying with Gamzee during those first critical months after his death, Gamzee would probably never have been as functional as he is now.
And then, after several glorious months of that, Vatheon took it all away. Wataru was sent home, and Gamzee was left to deal on his own again. Only the fact that he wants so badly to make Wataru proud of him is what kept him going -that and the support of the other friends he had made-but it wasn’t easy. Even now, months after, he still misses him so much. The bedroom he and Wataru shared is still kept exactly as it was before and if things get too much for Gamzee, he often absconds to Wataru’s old work room, burying himself in the room full of half-finished violin projects, listening to the only recording of Wataru’s music he has. Because of the abrupt end of their relationship, Gamzee still feels as strong for Wataru as he did before. Not to the point of wishing Karkat was Wataru. He simply feels incredibly pale for two different guys at the same time, and he honestly doesn’t see what the fuck is wrong with that anyway. Pity is a great thing and the more there is of it, the better.

Karkat Vantas
"You can't change what future you did there, and neither could I when I was there. If I had remembered anything from here, I would have done something, but we didn't get that chance. So... Just trust me. I'm going to keep you sane here, so that you never do something like that again.”
Karkat is Gamzee’s current moirail, but the road to this pale quadrant wasn’t without its obstacles. While the potential for this palerom had always been buried in their relationship, it didn’t gloriously erupt to the surface in a beautiful miraculous moment of mutual understanding.
Karkat’s pale feelings developed first when he was sent back to the veil for a short period of time, going through Gamzee’s stint with sobriety there, ending it with shoosh-paps and a pale bond. And then he was sent back to Vatheon again. Where he not only had to deal with already having a moirail, but also with the fact that Gamzee did not return his feelings. In fact, Karkat’s first confession ended with a resolute rejection from Gamzee’s side.
That was not to say though that the pity wasn’t there in Gamzee, but having only recently lost Wataru, it was too fresh a hurt for him to deal with. It took Gamzee a while to give his pain and grief a place in his life, but eventually the his pale crush on Karkat blossomed as well; not as a replacement of the feelings he felt (feels) for Wataru but rather as an equally powerful, separate pity alongside the ones for the human. And that is fine with Gamzee.
Still, it took them a while to actually put it all together, the biggest obstacle being Eridan, Karkat’s then moirail. Gamzee was not going to knock another brother from their quadrant, and Karkat had said you couldn’t have two, so he kept quiet. It wasn’t until Halloween rolled around and Gamzee went missing for a few days due to Vatheon Scientist Shenanigans that everything came to a resolution. Doing much like in the Veil, Karkat set aside his fears for the sober parts of Gamzee’s brain, instead focusing on calming down his friend (moirail) letting him know that he was not alone, and didn’t have to deal with things alone. And that was really all that Gamzee needed.
And since then, they have been moirails, with Karkat carefully tending to Gamzee’s slime habit, making sure Gamzee has enough of it and not shying away from shoosh paps if they are needed. Gamzee for his part, honestly tries to listen to Karkat as best as he can, using what he learned from his previous moirail to try and not over-burden him and be as much of a support to Karkat as Karkat is to him.

Equius Zahhak
”If you're my matesprit, I'll have plenty of reasons to smile.”
The relationship between Equius and Gamzee is pretty unique to say the least.
Gamzee has admitted that he likes seeing Equius happy. He likes seeing people happy in general, but getting Equius to be happy has ascended to a higher importance. Part of that is because Equius is always so grouchy and in control, that Gamzee just wants to bring mirth to him. Another part of it is that Equius has been very helpful to Gamzee since arriving in Vatheon. Despite the fact that Gamzee killed Equius’ moirail when he was sober, something he admitted to Equius readily, Equius was still willing to hang around with. And hanging around slowly turned in Gamzee trying to get Equius to trust himself, because Gamzee is plenty confident Equius could touch him if he wanted to. In fact, Gamzee only needs half an excuse, and not even a good one, to go bother Equius and waste his precious time. Cause he really likes his blue bro.
Their interactions have not all been pleasant and friendly however. When Gamzee caught Equius using the word ‘mutant’ in public, he snapped at him, telling him in no uncertain words to cut that shit out. Because the blood system is an idiocy. And Equius promised to try and not let it matter so much to him, which… really helped their relationship grow.
And then Wataru disappeared and Equius took care of him for one week. Which cannot have been a very fun week, considering Gamzee was barely conscious enough to speak, let alone be good company.
Equius has really been one of the few people who have seen nearly all of dark and grim bits of Gamzee, the parts he hates and fears. Equius was the one who gave Gamzee four killbots to beat up instead of Eridan. And watched him pour all his rage out into smashing those four into tiny, unidentifiable bits. Really, apart from Wataru and Karkat, Equius probably has seen more facets from Gamzee than anyone else.
… and Gamzee is 0k with that.
They became matesprits several months ago, and perhaps to everybody’s surprise… they’ve been thriving. Despite both having their issues, their issues somehow end up going along pretty nicely and for the most part their relationship is without problem. In fact, the biggest trouble came when Equius was sent back to the Veil to be killed by Gamzee. But even despite that trauma and Gamzee offering to break up with him, they stayed together. Their relationship had changed slightly, with both of them having to refind their balance and complete trust but they are working hard towards that. With many, many make-outs littering the way. Make-outs that may steadily be becoming a little more in tents intense, but that is cool. They can deal with that too when it is time.
Canon CR
Expatriate Chironus Darkleer
”I'm here. Shoosh. I'm here. “
Since his arrival in Vatheon and subsequent invitation by Equius, Darkleer has been living in Equius and Gamzee’s hive, fulfilling a bizarre and mostly awkward parental roll to the two young trolls. That is not to say this is anything like an earth parent relationship. Because it is not. But that doesn’t make it any less important.
Gamzee is honestly fond of Darkleer even if he doesn’t really fully understand him. He definitely doesn’t understand his devotion to the hemospectrum, but is still functioning under the misguided naivety that he can get him to give that up as easily as Equius did. Most of the time the subject can be left to be the uncomfortable giant trunkbeast in the room, but they have come to harsh words over it. Well, Gamzee has. Darkleer absconded as fast as he could. But somehow that hasn’t made Gamzee any less set on helping Darkleer overcome his prejudices. In fact, it is rather the opposite. He really thinks Darkleer is a pretty awesome dude, especially when he heard that Darkleer once refused to execute a lower blood, and he knows he can just let this go. With some help. And hugs.

The Dolorosa
---
Gamzee and the Dolorosa have not met very often, but he thinks she is a pretty bitchin’ kinda lady troll. She was actually the first adult troll he ever met and she really set the tone for him for meeting the other adults. Mostly in how she didn’t eat him and was pretty friendly, which is what led Gamzee to believe that all ancestors are much like her. Despite the stories.
Dolorosa has proven to be an invaluable ally at times, especially when Equius was turned into a little grub for a week once and Gamzee needed help from someone to figure out how to take care of him like a lusus. If he’d ever need advice again, Gamzee wouldn’t hesitate to ask her about anything.

The Helmsman (Psiioniic)
”Glory to the Empire ath uthual.”
The Helmsman is a source of personal discomfort to Gamzee. Not because he doesn’t like him, but rather because meeting the Helmsman forced a whole new understanding on him of how cruel their society really is. Gamzee wants nothing more for the Helmsman to learn to be a free troll again and disregard his programming, though he is starting to understand that that won’t be a very easy thing. Similarly, all he wants to be to this adult is a good friend and to show him that not all highbloods are bad and that Helmsman doesn't have to listen to him just cause his blood is a more purple-y shade than his.

Lysunder The Summoner
”jUST KNOW 1 HAVE NEVER MET A S1NGLE ONE OF YOUR CASTE L1KE YOU.
1T W1LL TAKE SOME GETT1NG USED TO.”
Lysunder and Gamzee’s first meeting did not start off on the right foot. Being an indigo-blood immediately made Lysunder wary of him, and it wasn’t until several others vouched for Gamzee that Lysunder gave him a chance. Which is enough for Gamzee. He thinks Lysunder is pretty amazing from what he has seen of him. Not only do they hold the same ideals re: blood, but they both pray and it is hard not to be amazed by Lysunder’s general charming demeaner. Gamzee has been trying to keep his cards completely open with Lysunder, even going as far as to confess to his crimes. He knows that it would probably be easier to be liked if Lysunder didn’t know he has culled before, but that just feels wrong to Gamzee. He doesn’t want Lysunder to like him now and then later be disgusted by what he has done. Actually, he kinda has a starting idol-crush on him too, and just really wants him to think Gamzee is cool and to be friends.
Seriously, he just wants Lysunder to think he is cool, plz. plz plz plz.

Neophyte Redglare
”YOU TROLLS 4R3 SO W31RD
D1D 3V3RYBODY GO SOFT 1N TH3 FUTUR3 >:?”
Redglare is honestly a puzzle to Gamzee, and he isn’t sure what to think of her. On occasion she is as friendly and joking as Terezi and he thinks they can be excellent bros, and then she throws in a sharp comment, or a cackling chuckle about things like Darkleer falling from grace over a lowblood and Gamzee doesn’t know what to do with her anymore. Shit be complicated, yo.

The Signless
”IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS INDIGOBLOOD BASED ON NOTHING MORE THAN HIS BLOOD COLOR, THEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ME AS WELL.”
Can we say giant adoring puppy-crush?
Meeting the Signless was like an amazing miracle to Gamzee. He already had heard a little about him from Karkat, but actually meeting him was amazing. And despite the fact that Signless arrived carrying the wounds just left on him by highbloods like Gamzee, he still accepted Gamzee as a friend, even going as far as to vouch for him to Lysunder.
Gamzee completely idolizes Signless’ ideals, agreeing with them, and if Signless would just please sign his tits now, yeah thanks, that’d be wild.

The Grand Highblood
---
ABSCOND ABSCOND GOODBYE MOTHERFUCKER NEVER GOING TO BE IN ONE ROOM WITH THIS GUY EVER IF HE CAN HELP IT.
Darkleer warned him about those Highbloods, he did. He warned him.
