But actually I'm quite happy for marriage to remain a religious thing, and therefore to remain a one man, one woman affair. However, just as the Pagan hand-fasting is not legally recognised, I believe that marriage should not be legally recognised. Seperation of church and state, you know.
We already have Civil Partnerships for gay people, so why not extend it to the rest of the populace and let religions have their faith based ceremonies? Again, without legal recognition.
It seems perfectly reasonable for all those 'marriages' that have taken place within registry offices, to automatically be given Civil Partnership status. Whether you'd extend that to all other marriages that have previously occured is perhaps a matter to be debated.
