Boardwalk gig

Jun 10, 2010 02:13

So yes, Mourning For Autumn played our first gig of the decade tonight, our first gig at the Boardwalk, our first gig with Martin as our drummer, our first gig with a cover version in the set. Our first gig where half the bands booked either cancelled at the last minute (Nasmyth Row) or simply didn't turn up (Sir Jam) - leaving just us and the headliners 3 Way Split.

A lacklustre but very appreciative crowd, it's only a shame there weren't any of the Sheffield contingent about to witness us laying down what was frankly and quite honestly a really very good set (where were you all? We did have people shouting for more though which is always good. There was one guy actually skanking down the front during 'Lights In The Sandstorm' and again during 'Urban Guerilla'!!

There was Charlotte's usual high energy guitar work, Thea's ever improving vocal skills, Martin's mean as hell drumming, and (remember here my not-so-great self-esteem) I can honestly say I was proud of my performance. Not the work of a twee little stand-at-the-back goth stereotype bassist, not with the unconscious Duff McKagan on the monitor riser poses ;o)

Quote of the evening either goes to Fairy asking me 'is she real' after Charlotte described her driving instructor to her - definately understandable when you've spent several months actually inside this band; or to Thea's sister saying 'I didn't realise you were actually good!! after we came off stage'.
