Title: Better Late than Never

Disclaimer: I do not own Primeval.

A/N: A follow up to my last two drabbles. Clearly, still more questions than answers, but I think in the next week or two, I might finally write a drabble that explains things a bit. Until then, hopefully poor Stephen’s plight can be enough. Thanks to lena7142 for her help. And hopefully this isn’t too boring or random.

For convenience, I made a master post for these drabbles here.

Summary: “Seems I’m running late,” Helen mused. “Because you seem to think it’s time to go.”

Stephen ran until there was no place to go. Then, he climbed.

The ventilation system looked high tech, but it was just ductwork. Tucked inside, Stephen waited. Footsteps rushed; voices faded. After several moments, he shimmied to the next grate, dropping through. Surveillance cameras were a risk, but it didn’t matter. Just keep going-

“Stephen.”

Stephen froze.

“Seems I’m running late,” Helen mused. “Because you seem to think it’s time to go.”

He didn’t speak, body so tense, it hurt.

“Better late than never, though,” she tsked. “Now let’s get you back to bed before you do something else foolish.”
