Title: Shooting at Air

Disclaimer: I really don’t own Primeval.

A/N: Written for the prompt pteranadon for primeval100. Based on ep 1.05.

Summary: Cutter always makes things sound so easy - teaching and research and Helen - but Stephen’s the one who finds himself doing the work.

The pteranodon is massive. It flies gracefully, catching the lilting wind as it dances around the rooftops. Stephen’s a damn good shot, but no matter how clearly he sees it, he can’t get his aim to steady long enough.

Cutter chides him, and Stephen grouses. Cutter always makes things sound so easy - teaching and research and Helen - but Stephen’s the one who finds himself doing the work.

Sometimes Stephen feels like all he’s doing is chasing after Cutter, trying to hit a moving target. Every time he gets close, Cutter veers off, Helen returns, and Stephen’s shooting at the air.
