life is what you make of it

That title is, of course, sung to the tune of "b-o-l-o-g-n-a" in the Oscar Myer theme song.

Hi all.

Kermit the frog, here, reporting live from a quiet and unassuming desk in a home on Avenue Q. The checkbook has been balanced and everything is pretty much done. Sure, I need to get ready for work, but that will get handled one way or another. I still have plenty of time. I just thought I'd take a moment to check in with all those lovely people who look to me to bring them the news, such as it is.

My job isn't great. I'm not thrilled to go every day. This makes me normal, or at least among the majority. However, I am complimented daily on my energy, enthusiasm and obvious positive attitude. To clients and supervisors I say, "All people are contagious--I would just rather pass a smile on to everyone else, if I can." To co-workers and people from other departments I say, "Be happy or fake it until you are--and I'll let you guess which one I'm doing."

The bottom line is that my day would be even worse if I had to sit inside the skin of someone who spent the whole day grumbling and trying not to cry. Oh, I stare at the clock for several minutes at a time several times a day, but who doesn't. The point is that I really try to make this misery as not-unpleasant as possible for everyone around me and hope that I, too, get the memo.

It's not just a fake smile, it's a way of life. And I will be promoted for it. Or I will find a better job somewhere else. Either way, really.

Hope all is well with everyone else.
Take care and smile anyway.
Yours,
Kimberly
