It's been months since I've been able to finish a book, but I finished "Storm Front" by Jim Butcher, the first book in the Dresden Files series. In fact, I read that book in 2 days, it was THAT good! I've already put the next two books on hold.
Right now I'm reading "Physics of the Impossible" by Michio Kaku. It explores how possible various scifi technologies are. According to him, there are three categories of technologies called "impossible" by most physicists: 1) Things that could happen in our century or the next one since they don't violate any known laws of physics. 2) Things that, if possible, probably won't show up until after millennia of advancement. 3) Things that, if possible, would revolutionize our understanding of physics. (In other words, totally impossible from all we currently understand about physics.) I like how he keeps an open mind even about the things he considers truly impossible, first by saying such things are rare and then by admitting that our understanding of physics might be incomplete. I think I'll be able to finish this book, too.
