You mean "wretched". "Retched" is the past tense of "retch" (the action of vomiting)

Someone told me once pubic hair reduces friction, but I've never found that to be true. It's just annoying.

Well, armpit hair certainly does...

Why would we need reduced friction in our armpits? Besides, aren't the armpits the one part of most apes that have the least amount of fur?

You've never had the skin where the upper arm and torso can rub get raw from rubbing (t-shirts and the like generally protect enough to avoid that).
