Breaking the mold

I'm reading old Sinfest comics. In one, Slick says "God broke the mold when he made me". Now, I know that "broke the mold" means, as in metallurgy, breaking the mold you pour the metal into so you can't make any more like that one. But what exactly does that *mean*? Does it mean God made a mold, made the person, and then thought, "There shall be no more like this, this one is too awesome to copy." Or does it mean, "Ugh, this one sucks too much to copy."? Or something else?
