Fucking post office

May 23, 2007 13:58

I went to the post office today with a care package for Brax (consortofvenus) full of A. Foodstuffs I had and am not going to use. And B. Some foodstuffs I bought just for him and his mum. I was going to send him (A) anyway, but I did (B) because I figure, hey: charity. Tax write-off.

Now, I have sent all kinds of things to Canada before without a problem, but this time... UGH! Yes, everything was allowed. But I had to buy a box, though that was no problem. I'd figured I'd have to. What was irritating was this: they abolished the economy class! They used to have this economy class where you pay a really cheap rate for the box to be delivered in so many weeks (3 to 5, I think). But they no longer had it! The box was 27 pounds, and the cheapest they had was something like $50! WTF???

So I set the box aside, reopened it, and took all the heavy stuff (that is, canned food) out. I suppose I'll send it to him in a flat-rate box ($23) in a few weeks. And now, thank goodness, the price dropped drastically along with the weight down to $20-something. But I tell you, if it weren't for the whole charity angle, I wouldn't have bothered once I saw those rates.

See... what's in there now? Some ramen noodles, some pad thai noodles, pop tarts of a flavor I don't care for, spaghetti, rice, and I can't remember what else.

So, uh, yeah. Brax: you're getting spaghetti, but the spaghetti *sauce* will be in the next shipment. :-) And don't complain that I'm spending too much on you. Like I said, tax write-off. You're helping me save on taxes. This time. ;-)

random, canada, caring and sharing, awesome friends
