Greengrocers

There's a scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows where Umbridge is being derisive about this muggle-born woman's parents being greengrocers. And I'm just like, "Wouldn't the wizarding world need jobs like greengrocers, too?" Especially since food can't be made from nothing in that 'verse ( Read more... )

Of the muggle who believes electricity comes from the light switch.

With those idiots like the Malfroys in the canon and feeling justified... that would make sense really.

Dolores Umbridge is a she, but whatever. I like your thought. :-) Especially as Hermione had to explain to Ron at one point that, "No, your mother CAN'T make food from nothing" and why. So if a 17 year old wizard pureblood whose whole family are purebloods can think magic makes food from nothing, maybe you're right; maybe Umbridge thinks the same thing. She's not exactly the smartest person in the world, after all.

Weird that the wizards have the most human of human qualities.

Usually authors don't include stuff like that.

I think perhaps it was more a case of Harry usually being the Token Ignorant Character Whose Questions Help Inform The Reader About Wizarding Stuff So The Narrator Doesn't Have To Infodump. Ron is generally the Token Ignorant Character regarding muggle stuff, but I think for that scene she was tired of using Harry as the Token Ignorant Character for wizarding stuff and decided to have Ron be that, and thus either accidentally or on purpose made him a bit more human.

Though, since the fact that food being scarce was one of the things that made Ron run away in a huff (to come back later), the fact she chose him to be Token Ignorant Character may have been deliberate.
