Yesterday as I was at the bus stop when this woman I didn't know complimented me on my top (which is purple tie-dye almost long enough to be a dress, that just turned up in my closet one day1), which I always like, but then in the same moment, she tried to touch it. I don't like being touched without my permission, so I flinched back - twice - to avoid this strange lady from touching me. Over the years, I've been working on actually reacting to things the way I want to react to them instead of just staying in my shell and being pissy about it. So this was a major victory for me...
...which was ruined partially by the mocking look she gave me, before walking off. I wish she hadn't walked off, because I would have loved to have said, "What the fuck is wrong with you, lady? You don't violate someone's personal space without asking first! So don't you be looking at me like I'M the unreasonable one!"
Seriously, what is so hard to understand about the concept of "personal space"?
1 = Seriously, it just turned up in my closet one day. I haven't bought new clothes in years, due to being poor, and I certainly never bought that purple top. I would have worn it from day one if I had. I think the Clothing Fairy gifted it to me.
