Word to replace modern connotation of "dogma"

Aug 09, 2012 20:07

Robert Anton Wilson came up with a better word for rigid belief than what "dogmatic" has become: "modeltheism." (IE, worshiping one's model of the universe to such a degree that one refuses to ever let it change, therefore rejecting any new data that might make it need to change.)

This is good, because “dogma” actually just means “a belief,” and NOT the kind of rigid thinking that its modern connotation implies.

Another reason to like the word modeltheism is that it applies to more than just religious beliefs, too.
