So its been two months, and i'm pretty sure that means i'm overdue for some serious blogging. So here goes~~~
~~~The past couple months have produced some very exciting things. My last entry i wrote about my first interview with a civil engineering firm for an internship this summer, well, that didn't pan out...the first interview that is. A couple weeks later i scheduled an interview with another firm called Freese and Nichols at their Dallas office which i went to over Spring Break. Long story short it went really well and the next day !BAM! i'm lined up to be a bona fide intern over the summer working 9 - 5. I'm pretty excited! I'll be working with the infrastructure group. Honestly, i'm not sure what to expect. All i know is that the head engineer made it sound like a really neat opportunity and i will NOT be working in a pharmacy this summer. My sanity is thankful for that.
~~~Last week i was elected Social/Ritual chair in Tau Beta Sigma, the band sorority. Basically, next year i'll set up social events, dinners throughout the pledge process, holiday party, various brunches, and be part of the executive council. This will definitely be a new experience for me since i've never planned anything more than a party for several people (shhhh, don't tell anyone.) But i'm confident i can put together some snazzy events. My platform was to "patronize more local Austin restaurants".
~~~And quite possibly what i'm most excited about right now...ladies and gents, last week the directors of Longhorn Band decided i was worthy of being a section leader for next year. Which means a spot to every away game where they only take a small pep band, free bbq on home game days, and did i mention the chance to finally do something i've been dying to do since i was a freshman in high school? This entry prompted me to look up the entry i wrote after i didn't get section leader in high school (May 19th 2003):
"After they didn't say my name i just kinda closed my eyes tight and muttered 'oh no...' I always kind of assumed it would eventually happen till this month. But its not... Ever now...I wish they would tell me it was a mistake and i am one. But i'm not. I'm just... not. And its their loss. Because i would have been a great section leader..."
Wow. Not till looking that up just now did i really remember...That's so me from high school. Laced with such drama and anguish. Oh, Alison, you thought you knew it all. I'm once again happy to point out something i was wrong about. I'm thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to do for others what the section leaders did for me when i first got to UT. They gave me Longhorn Band, passed it on to me so to speak. Yeah they taught me how to march but they also taught me how and why to love it. I know it sounds sappy but it makes sense in my head... LHB became another reason why staying at home for a year was the best decision. Sometimes i still can't believe the experiences i've had and the people i've met through it. Like i've said i'm one lucky girl. The leadership position will be a new experience and challenge for me but i can do it. I can be a great section leader.
