Last night our power was out for six hours, (5-11 p.m.). I really had no problem with it, but my roommates were antsy with boredom. We gathered around the fireplace and played poker. I only regretted not having anything to drink. Perhaps it's a sign of me being boring, but a few hours in a dark house with a fireplace going and snow outside is great. I just sat silently and watched the flames bounce around, got lost in thought. It only started to bother me when I got tired because I need electricity for my respirator. My friend was actually getting ready to pick me up and have me crash at his place, but then the lights came up and my sleepiness subsided and I finished the night watching The Shawshank Redemption, which was really good.
Today I went hiking at Red Rock. I slid around and fell a bit, more than my friend did, but it was a lot of fun and really beautiful. The mountains were streaked with snow, many covered in fog with the occasional peak sneaking above it. There was a slight trickling waterfall with a pond under it, some of it frozen, some liquid. It was just enough of a hike to feel weary and warm inside, but not exhausted. At one point I found an empty beer bottle and picked it up because I hate littering, but after passing people and fearing they thought I was drunk, (I was sliding a lot on inadequate shoes), I left it on a wooden viewing platform. After this we ate mexican food and the whole thing was basically bliss in the purest form, (exertion/work plus nourishment/pleasure).
