I had the week off (my vacation doesn't role over, so I had to take it in June or lose it--the choice was easy.) It was fabulous, but I didn't get the stuff around the house done that I had hoped. I was wondering, where did the week go? So I am blogging this, mostly for myself.
Monday: Relaxed, read, did laundry, visited one childcare center, did some grocery shopping and errands. In the evening
pnsm and I toured the hospital where Kermit will be born. I am a little nervous about a hospital birth, so was happy to hear how supportive almost all their policies and the environment is of the kind of birth I hope to have.
Tuesday: Not feeling so hot in the am, slept in, got hair cut, had lunch with friends at
Pok Pok (yum!), ran errands in NW, got drinking chocolate at
Cacao (yum!), came home and lay down for a few minutes, then returned to NW for a 3+ hour Reed dinner at
Andina--WOW! Of course I did not partake, but from my co-workers' reactions, I would say this is the place to go for cocktails.
Wednesday: Not feeling so hot, slept in, got coffee. I can't remember what I did on Wednesday.....I saw Sex and The City and, well, at least I didn't pay for it. (I had a pass.) The take away is that, in fashion, the 80's are still here with a vengeance and it's not pretty. I think I got the oil changed this day. Oh--and I got some more basil in the ground. Later I made dinner, took it to
pnsm and ate at
Cubespace, before going to a free event called
Ignite Portland, where we saw 13, 5 minute slideshow presentations about everything from how a nuclear reactor works ("How to boil water in 5 easy steps") to the tale behind the creation of the Cup 'o Noodle, to why "happy" chicken eggs aren't really so happy to one about a woman who went off to Afghanistan a few years ago with only a hundred dollars in her pocket entitled, " Dare to Go Where You Fear."
Thursday: Took the car into the shop and then went berry picking / jam making with the lovely
shanamadele. Sauvie Island was beautiful--it was a perfect day. Then I came home, made a quick dinner, and taught a
Womenstrength refresher course that evening. I over did it physically (my legs hurt do bad that night), but it was fun!
Friday: Tired and feeling a little icky. Took
pnsm to work, got coffee, visited a child care center. (Good news--I found a place I think we'll all like 10 blocks from our house and that is in our price range!) I had a small lunch and headed off to my 15 minute midwife appointment at Kaiser. Two hours later, I got my actual lunch at the cafeteria. Stopped by our new credit union to try to sort through a few issues and drove up to visit with
pdxfoodmama and her family--all of whom I had not seen in far too long. Picked up the also very tired
pnsm from work, made dinner and watched most of
King Corn--until we got too tired. We practiced some pain coping techniques as part of our childbirth preparation and went to sleep.
So much for spring cleaning!!!
