Jack Sparrow... err, Starling

"If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, it's yours forever. If it doesn't, then it was never meant to be."

Apparently, this holds true to annoying, little, feathered things too.  For those of you who don't know, a couple of weeks ago, I found a baby (nestling) bird in the warehouse where I worked.  I tried to return him to his nest, however, it was completely out of reach.  So, I decided to take care of the baby sparrow (at least, that's what I thought he was) until it would be time to release him.  The next day, I decided to call him Jack.

So, for the past couple of weeks, I've been painstakingly taking care of baby Jack, who is now a full-feather fledgling European Starling.  He requires to be fed about every two hours now, which is much better then every 20 minutes when I first found him.  Although, he craps everywhere, including the random turds that shoot out of the cage and end up on my car seat.

When I came to work today, Jack had been acting very agitated.  He keeps trying to bite at me everytime my hand goes near the cage.  I know that the cage he is in is too small, but I've been taking him everywhere with me, so I need something portable.  While I was unpacking the car, Jack was calling out, and another fledgling starling happened to call back and bounced right over to his cage.  It was adorable, although the thought of "Not another one" crossed my mind.  When the fledgling bounced away, I figured that the mother must be in the area and now could be a good time to let Jack free.  I know it's about 2 weeks early to try, but this would be his best bet at a normal birdy life.  So, I popped the top to the cage and Jack shortly flew off and started to forge for food.  Eventually he just disappeared.

And then, these strange stories started popping up around the workplace of random people getting attacked by some bird that was near the warehouse.  Apparently, it happened to three different people.  Eventually, someone recognized the bird and called me, and sure enough, on the ground by someone's feet, was Jack screaming out and wanting food.  I picked him up and put him back in his cage, gave him some food, and now he is all content... and I have a new pet.
