So, I must say that the timing for this was perfect considering the journal I made yesterday...
Last night, as we were all getting ready to leave for work, we were told that there was a 'meeting' that was going to be held at the end of the day that everyone needed to attend. In the military, 'meetings' at the end of the day are never anything good, otherwise, they would have been announced way earlier in advance. So, we all go up there, without anyone knowing what's going on, and we meet the new DCA of the clinic, and he gives his little speech. Blah blah blah, it was all sugar-coated bullcrap anyways, so I kinda tuned him out. But, you could pick-up that something big was going to happen. The foreboding was just filling the air.
Well, the DCA left and the Detachment Sergeant started talking to us. Now, if you don't know about the military, the officers are called gentlemen for a reason, they aren't suppose to yell or bark or anything, they politely tell you about what's going on. However, when the highest-ranking enlisted member starts talking to you, it can get nasty really quick.
Apparently, last weekend, they were multiple incidents that happened that all ended in multiple investigations that needed to be opened up. All of these incidents involved people in our unit, with the expection of a dental clinic worker getting a DUI. They don't exactly fall under us. But, apparently, there was a (this is guessing here, the details haven't been revealed yet) sexual assualt, an act of adultery, and a case where someone passed out, in the street, completely nude. The detachment sergeant and the commander of the unit were both on leave, and both of them were notified. The detachment sergeant ended his leave early to come 'talk' to us.
Well, actions are needed to be taken, and this is where it sucks. The only people that the detachment sergeant has any control over when we aren't on duty are those that live in government housing, i.e., me. He declared that no one is allowed to have or consume alcohol in their place of residence, that no one is allowed to leave post by themselves, and must have someone with them at all times, and whenever someone leaves, they must notify the highest ranking NCO (my sergeant, yea) of their whereabouts.
I was livid, I've been in the military for over 5 years now, and the most trouble I've ever gotten into is being late to work, and now, I can't even drink a beer in my room without the risk of losing rank or pay. If anyone knows me, when I get pissed off, I get very vocal and violent (with non-animate object), and after telling my squad leader that he can have my rank as this is only going to make me be secretive about what I'm doing, or make me drive to the bar so I can drink and drive back, thus putting myself and others at risk, I stormed off and held true to those words.
Seriously, I don't think the command has properly thought of this decision, if you can't let us drink at home, you're making us go somewhere else to do so. And guess what, we have to get home somehow, and the taxi fares here are insanely high (~60 EUR for a cab, one way). So, you're going to make me risk my life, and anyone else's life I hit just to have a beer. Bravo, for your stupid ideas.
I calmed down after a few hours, and thankfully rehearsals kept me busy and away from home. Now, I'm just trying to see how I can use these new rules to piss off the right people. For example, if I can't leave home by myself, how am I suppose to drive to work on Saturday? I can't have or drink beer in my room, true, but can I keep it in my car and drinking outside at a BBQ? And, I can't leave home alone, but traveling around with 'Bob" is no problem, right? (Bob is completely imaginary.) Most of all, I haven't decided if I'm going to displace my anger from my detachment sergeant to my NCOIC, as she is the one that has to enforce these rules. Because, I'll have no problem going out this Saturday with a group of people, getting drunk (well, I'll stay sober), and calling my detachment sergeant for a ride because it was his decision to not let me stay at home and drink.
Oh well, I'll worry about plotting these things later. Tonight, my internet at home is going to be shut off as my roommate is finally moving out soon. And, on top of that, opening night for the theatre is tonight, so I'm a little excited about that.
And, I really need to get a furry military icon... just need to find an artist that'll do it.
