If you could change one moment in your past, what would it be?

Hm. Well, it certainly would not be my arrival in the Underside - that gave me my chance to truly make something of myself, a chance I never had in the Upworld.

Nor, I think, would it be my death - that, after all, served a purpose, and I knew that if Old Bailey kept to his word and our agreement, I would be returning. The prolonged and excruciating pain was a price worth paying for the knowledge it bought me.

No, I think if I could change one thing, it would be the moment in the sewers where I dropped the token. I would have walked more carefully, not injured my foot, not stumbled. And then we would never have encountered the Beast, and Hunter would not have perished.

True, she died as she had lived, in the pursuit of the hunt, and as she would undoubtedly have chosen to die, were the choice hers. But she might have been useful to us, or to me, in the future, with the debt she owed for her betrayal. And so I do regret her loss.
