I had this argument with someone in RL the other day, so Feminist rant coming up.About how in some ways, I'm a "typical" feminist (notice use of quotes) and in some ways I'm an anti-thesis of it, ergo, I'm not one.

I disagree entirely:

I am a Feminist )

I agree with _love_never. Feminism isn't what most people see as feminism. Feminism is about making sure women have the right to choose what they want in their own lives, whether it's getting married or not, having babies or none, choosing what happens to their body, whether they work or stay at home (mind you, if married), whether they go for that high powered, well paid job or not. It's not about hating men or wishing they'd all disappear. It's about equal pay for equal work (which is the only reason I don't think the women's tennis should be making as much as the men at gs, they don't play as many matches, therefore it's NOT equal work.)

Chivalry to me, isn't a knock against feminism. I have a dad who's military (was) and he opens doors, says ma'am, all that stuff. My dad expects to pay when he and his wife go out to dinner. My dad expects to pay when he takes my grandma out to dinner. It's the generation partially, it's the military in a BIG WAY. I think it's all about how the guy grew up and what the guy believes is teh right thing to do. I won't say no to a guy holding a door for me, but I also expect a guy to walk through a door I'm holding open for him.

I agree with you about equal pay for equal work. You're absolutely right.

The thing about women's tennis. You know, personally I agree with what Venus Williams does as a campaigner for Women's Rights (since she was the lead proponent of equal prize money)

But in particular about equal prize money I really avoid taking a stand either way, because both sides have valid arguments (at least to me) so I don't say anything about it at all.

Okay, I get what you're saying about your father.Honestly, it isn't something I really considered.

I also expect a guy to walk through a door I'm holding open for him.

That's a fair assumption to make. And I can see what you're trying to say.
