Rant: Fanfiction and realism.

You know one of my biggest peeves with fanfic is, when writers feel the need to match everyone up with someone, and all the women (at varying points in time, but almost always, after a confession of undying love) get pregnant.

I remember reading a Star Wars fic a few months ago, called Rebirth of The Jedi, I like the premise, but, however, not only does Mara get preganant with Ben, but also Leia, and Mara's fictional sister one after another, as solid proof of their 'uberlove'. It's not the fact that children been born 'out of wedlock' that bothers me, but the fact that writers feel the need to make their women, more feminine by making them give birth babies one after another.

Maybe the feminist in me cringes as such stereotypical portrayals, and maybe all of you are going to be pissed of at me, for being nitpicky about this, but whatever.

It's not that I'm against characters having millions of babies, but very often, children being born immediately after relationships are formed, might just be detrimental because both parents are ill-equipped to deal with something so huge and significant in their lives.

And going back to the need a lot of writers have of pairing everyone up with everyone...in an ideal world, that maybe true, everyone finds someone. But that doesn't always happen. I just wish people would realise that.

And another thing about fanfic that bugs me is that in slash fics, everyone is gay. I find that simply hard to believe, I know the stuff about like begets like, but come on.

People need to add liberal amounts of realism to their fantasy.

Maybe, I'm just too much of a realist, or a feminist...or maybe I should just stay away from 'A Single Spark'.
