Write up for the
Gothic Festival - it wasn't very Gothic. It was, however, a LOT of fun! Sadly we didn't get there until the last couple of tracks of Reaper on the Friday, missing Pressure Control who I really would have loved to catch :-(
Brilliant were: VNV Nation, Absolute Body Control, Fixmer/McCarthy (surprised huh?), Combichrist, Les Tambours Des Bronx (15? drummers on stage - ace!), Sonar, Das Ich, The Nephs
Decent were: [SITD]
Didn't much care for: 32Crash (he gives me the creeps a wee bit :-S tho I'm told he's a lovely chap), Trisomie21, The Neon Judgement, Anne Clark
Missed: Cruxshadows but I've seen plenty of them, Clan of Xymox, most of Sunday actually as it was spent sitting outside in fine company drinking beer and eating steak.
We happened across a pub on the way home on Friday night cos Neil and Gabi wanted fags, got adopted, they changed the music to play waht we wanted, we drank a lot, they bought us beer, went home at 6.30am. Went back the next night, taught them some Scots, stayed till 6am - new local in Waregem.
All in, great folks (a surprise appearance from South African Dave!), great beer, great bands, great hotel, good (if sweaty) venue and lovely lovely Belgium/ians :-) Waregem itself isn't exactly rockin' everyone seemed to be on holiday but it was pleasant. Still can't speak good enough French/any Flemish and never know which one to use anyway!
Roll on Combichrist/Ashbury Heights/Uberbyte :-)
