[series]: Blood+ (anime)

[character]: Solomon Goldsmith

A. [character history/background]: Wiki Link

B. [character abilities]: In Solomon's mortal life, he held the position of being a doctor. After his being turned into a Chevalier, he worked as a very successful CEO in Cinq Fleches, a pharmaceutical company that had it's fingers in many aspects of the human world. As for his supernatural abilities, being a Chevalier gives him the ability to shape shift. Throughout the series, Solomon changes shape to his full Chiropteran form, giving him the ability to fly. And in battle he creates a 'sword' that is formed out of his hand. Chevalier's are virtually immortal, barring a hasty death from violence. Other skills include super speed, super strength and the ability to heal at an alarming rate. (Even to the point where they can reattach severed limbs just by holding it to the wound.) Another power that Chevalier's appear to possess is the ability to shoot out a repercussive force wave which is capable of great devastation.

C. [character personality]: Solomon Goldsmith is to all outward appearances the epitome of a perfect gentleman. Despite what's going on, he always seems to have a relaxed air about him, smiling easily, and always speaking at ease with others when he chooses to engage in conversation. I find this to be a very interesting aspect of his character as after he had become a Chevalier and left the mortal world behind, so to speak, Solomon viewed the human race as inferior to his newly adopted species. And doesn't seem to have any conscious qualms about what happens to those around him.

His only concern after that point is Diva. Despite the fact that he regularly interacts with humans in his business dealings. He remains almost supernaturally calm even under the most stressful situations, handling life or death situations with the utmost of ease.

Solomon seems to have an amiable relationship with his brothers. He shows deference to Amshel, going along with his plans at least to any outward appearances. But, having met Saya, he decides to work behind his brothers back, to protect her from the plans to kill her.

The strongest relationships for Solomon would have to be from both Diva and her twin sister Saya. With Diva, he found an escape from the violent wars that surrounded him as a mortal. He found someone to devote himself to, a mother, a lover, and the source of a new family that he could spend an eternity with. But, with Saya, he found something quite unexpected. Even though he knew that Saya was destined to be their bride, he hadn't expected to have fallen so in love with her on a much deeper level.

From practically the first moment he met Saya, he found himself being drawn to her, captivated by the 'wonderful girl' he had met and feeling a chemistry between them by the way they danced together so easily. I believe that his initial meeting with the hesitant, shy 'human' Saya that in some way touched a part of him that he'd long been disconnected with. I think seeing her before he knew her identity, he was able to view her without prejudice and to see the more delicate, pretty side of her that first attracted him. Finding out who she was a brief time later, only added to his interest, by realizing that she was the one who he was intended to take as a bride. (Of course, it's insane that he didn't recognize her immediately seeing as how she's supposed to be identical twins with Diva. But plot hole aside....*cough*)

If the pretty girl at the dance appealed to his more human side, then seeing her emerge from battling chiropterans at the Plantation, covered in blood, eyes gleaming red... this surely stirred the more passionate emotions of his Chevalier aspect. A Chiropteran Queen in her full glory... how could he avoid falling in love with someone so similar to Diva in this regard?

Solomon is a very perceptive character, and because of his past, I feel he ultimately wished that the warring sisters could reconcile and there would be no more need for the splintered family to be torn apart. To this end, he devised to go behind his brother's directives to try to convince Saya to give up her vendetta. It would have been what Diva had truly wanted anyway, to have Saya's affections back where they belonged.

Having been unsuccessful, he begins to thwart his brothers attempts to harm her, eventually coming to a point where he steps in to protect her physically. I think it's because of Saya's 'human' side, that Solomon finally makes the choice to switch allegiances, when he sees that there is no hope of reconciliation. Towards the end of the series, he does what no Chevalier has done before, and renounces his bonds as Diva's Chevalier.

In his attempts to court Saya, Solomon seems to approach it in an almost shockingly direct manner. He professes his love too strongly, having essentially kidnapped Saya in his attempts to be with her. He does his best to paint a beautiful picture of what he can offer her, yet despite this, she leaves with Hagi. This is the first and only time we see Solomon breaking down, the apparent rejection having forced him into a deep depression.

In an attempt to prove his love and complete devotion to Saya, he attempts to kill Diva. Something no Chevalier should be able to do. His brother Amshel attributes all this to Saya's blood calling him as a Chevalier. Solomon dismisses this, saying that isn't the case, and that he knows he loves her as himself.

Primary Qualities: Polite, elegant, refined, determined, protective, devoted, hopeless romantic, calm and collected. (In later episodes Solomon exhibits a bit of a stalker-ish tendency towards Saya.)

[canon chronology]: Episode 42, after Solomon has saved Saya from his 'brothers' attack. I wish to pick up the character after he'd retreated back with her to his penthouse suite.

Brother! What's the meaning of this?!

The least you could do is to face me! This is a new skill, I wasn't aware that you were capable of catching me so off guard that I have no memory of my abduction. To take me from my apartme--

[Solomon comes into view of the camera, his fierce eyes zeroing in to the fact that he's being recorded]Amshel! You better not have touched a hair on Saya's head, or so help me...!

[He takes a deep breath, and forces his features to compose themselves. Slowly, his mouth twists into a polite assured smile.] No, you don't have her, do you? If you did, I have no doubt that you'd have been sure to let me know. You were never one to be light handed in your punishments.

Might I remind you that Diva gave me leave to go, Brother. I won't be subject to your experiments like Karl was...

[third person rp sample]:
It had started out innocently enough. A mild flirtation with a nameless girl during a dance. Her name had echoed in his head as he left, blinking in surprise to know who exactly it was that had just walked into his life at long last.

The second time he saw her, his pulse quickened as she stormed out of the building. This innocent girl, eyes blazing a deep crimson red, blood plastered over her shapely body. Her sword in hand after having just slaughtered countless newborn chiropterans that had sought her life. It was a truly beautiful sight. It had been exhilarating knowing that this singular force of destruction was destined to be his bride. Before that, there had only been Diva. Diva with her madness, obsessiveness, and lust for death... Saya was turning out to be quite different.

In that moment, she was almost identical to her twin sister Diva. Diva, whom he and his brothers had sworn to protect. Diva, that had been his sole devotion.

“Saya...” Gazing out into the darkness of the night, Solomon lifted a fluted wine glass to his lips and drank deeply of the dark liquid. It still surprised him that his alliances that had been so steadfast had begun to turn against his creator and towards her sister. There would be Hell to pay for his betrayal... but for Saya, he would risk anything.

For the life of him, he couldn't understand why she resisted him. Wasn't he good enough for her? Diva felt he had been worthy enough... had he not done everything that had been asked of him? Surely Saya would be able to see the value of having him by her side. Or perhaps it was Hagi that was getting in the way of his defection. Hagi who wasn't even supposed to be Saya's mate. Yet the protective jealousy that filled her chevalier's eyes was painfully obvious whenever Solomon made any sort of advance towards his bride.

Even now, it seemed unreal to him. The possibility that after all this time, he could find release from the nightmares of endless war. Even though he didn't regret his time with his brothers, and more importantly with Diva... The promise of a life of happiness with Saya was a gift that Solomon had never thought would be his. “Forgive me, Diva...”

For as long as he could remember it had always been one conflict after another, starting with the bloodshed and atrocities of the revolution in Russia. He'd thought he could make a difference then, trying against all hope to heal the sickness that surrounded him. But the fighting continued. A never-ending wave of carnage and hatred, sweeping everyone up in it's path... including him.

When Diva came into his life, he thought surely this was the way out of the nightmare. To join with a beautiful queen, and be lifted out of the madness that surrounded him. And for a time it had truly felt that way. But things could never be so simple, and soon enough he began to see the pattern repeat itself. Death, destruction, hatred... it mattered not whether it was human or chiropteran, it was always the same.

But Saya. Despite the feud that threatened his creator's life... there was something about Diva's sister that had managed to revive a part of him he thought he'd lost long ago. It was amazing. Shocking. Wondrous.... more than he had ever hoped for...

“Now, if I could only get Saya to listen to me. She has to see that there's a better way to live than the path she's chosen. We could find happiness together...”
