So yesterday I rented the movie the Wackness. I have terrible taste in movies. I could finish almost anything...except the Wackness. I think that could have been a great movie but they tried too hard.
The only character in the whole movie that I thought could pass in 1994 was poor old Mary-Kate Olsen. Cause I can't count how many drugged out skrawny chicks that looked like death incarnate that I saw in the mid-nineties. I must add that I've only been to new york once, so maybe I'm totally wrong and they got it right. .
Now it's on to Step Brothers but that's more k8 than me. She's been into the low brow thing lately. I think she has a thing for Will Farrell cause I've now seen all of his movies I'm pretty sure.
I found the best song. I have been lurking on this fellow
jabberwocky's blog and he did this thing with a couple of obscure songs that I thought was cool. I couldn't think of anything to do one on until...I was watching Hell Boy 2 and they worked in Can't Smile Without You as sung by Barry Manilow. An amazing song, but not the one. Can't Smile Without You was originally a b-side to the song
Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft. That is an extra-ordinary stellar song! I don't understand how I could have made it 31 1/2 years without this song. It was originally performed by a canadian prog rock band called
Klaatu who wrote the song in hopes of it being an anthem for
world contact day.
The Klaatu version is overloaded with synthy goodies, while the Carpenters version is a 160 performer monstrosity complete with cheesy ring modulated space alien voice. The song has a totally schizophrenic structure that goes from erie to happy to trippy in the middle of a phrase. I especially like how the musical phrase ends with the word contact and then they tack on with you as if they sampled it from another song. This was the mid-seventies ya know before sampling and all.

Written by Klaatu
In your mind you have capacities you know
To telepath messages through the vast unknown
Please close your eyes and concentrate
With every thought you think
Upon the recitation we're about to sing
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary most extraordinary craft
You've been observing our earth
And we'd like to make a contact with you
We are your friends
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary ultra-emissaries
We've been observing your earth
And one night we'll make a contact with you
We are your friends
Calling occupants of interplanetary quite extraordinary craft
And please come on peace, we beseech you
Only a landing will teach them
Our earth may never survive
So do come, we beg you
Please interstellar policeman
Oh, won't you give us a sign
Give us a sign that we've reached you
With your mind you have ability to form
And transmit thought energy far beyond the norm
You close your eyes, you concentrate
Together that's the way
To send the message
We declare world contact day
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary ultra-emissaries
We are your friends.
I'm sure I'll get better at doing these and they will only get more in depth and interesting. Until then I beseech you to get lost in a beautifully crazy song from the year of my birth.
