"Hello and welcome to Busch Gardens!"--The immortal phrase of all the "actors" on the wide theatre stage of Busch Gardens--which I am not OFFICALLY apart of! After two days of orientation, 5 hours of listening to people talk about this procedure and that protcol and this way to interact with a guest, I'm finally on the payroll and have access to the park (behind the scenes!) So both orientations went fairly well, and I learned a lot of neat information about benefits, what I'm expected to do as an employee (though I still don't know specifically what I'll be doing, persay) and all the summer has in store for me! Getting up at 6:00 every morning and driving for 30 minutes will take some SLIGHT getting use to, but it's hopefully a small price to pay (as long as gas doesn't get too expensive).
I met another member of my team (the zoological one) as well as the actual staff-members who already work at the park, and I know I'm going to have an awesome time already! Before all of this--I hadn't been to Busch Gardens in at least 2 years...A lot has changed (including no more Corkscrew hill! Sad-day), but a lot has improved, particularly for the animal portion of it! They do tours, training tours, new shows, there are new and improved areas where we can interpret and speak to the guests, and just so much more!
After orientation, I went to investigate where the building was where I'd meet tomorrow morning (for my first REAL day :D) and got roped into actually seeing where I would work in the park...Which means I got to walk back in FREE at the employee's enterance. Let me tell you, after two years of not being here, I was UTTERLY spinning around in circles with joy! I went to see where I would work; with the lories, the parrots, giving tours, conservation, taking care of animals, intearcting with animals, letting guests take pictures, answering questions, and I could possibly be interpreting wolf behavior/answering questions at the wolf facility that they have there :D Plus they have a new tour where you actually get to practice training the wolves (and I get discount YAYZ). *bounces* Even though I wasn't really "on pay" when I went and explored in my uniform today, I think I'm already a part of the team.
While on my way to Italy, a woman with her 3 year old son approached me and asked me where Land of the Dragons was. At first I gave her rough directions (it's been a while) and she thanked me and walked ahead...But as I thought about it, I needed to explore anyway. So, taking the "Busch Gardens Customers first" iniative, I walked up to her and offered to escort her the entire way (for my benefit as well) to Land of the Dragons since this was only her second time here and it was a ways to walk/possibly confusing. We talked on the way about all sorts of things and I just felt like a REAL employee!
After exploring and helping her, I walked back towards New France, got me some hand-dipped peppermint ice cream in a waffle cone (with my Employee Discount :D), walked back to my car and headed home. A good day, I'd say. :3
Something the guest mentioned over and over again really hits home the entire point of this long blurb: "This must be a great place to work, isn't it?"
Why yes, Miss guest, it is.
