As most of you know, I take politics seriously and waited until today to post my voter guide so you can know how I'm voting and why. I've also provided VoteSmart's links to the candidates and their positions.
President:
Chuck Baldwin - Constitution Party McCain is going to take TN, so I know my candidate won't win. However, Mr. Baldwin is a man of principles, endorsed by Ron Paul. There are some things I don't like about him - his inexperience in politics and his focus on border security - but those are outweighed by his adherence to principles. C'mon... who doesn't wanna vote for a pastor who says having small amounts of marijuana should be legalized?!
Other options I think are good: Bob Barr (Libertarian) and Ralph Nader (Independent). Both men are experienced in the political sphere, but Barr's a late-comer to Libertarian principles. Nader is also a very principled man; his platform to move government power out of the individual citizen's realm and into the corporate sphere as a push-back for all the kickbacks is reasonable.
US Senate:
Daniel Towers Lewis - Independent Mr. Lewis is an educator from Nashville who has been involved in Libertarian politics for the last 5 years. He's run for multiple offices but never been elected. However, his firm stance on defending the civil liberties of our nation's citizenry and his principled Constitutional stance on national issues make him an ideal candidate in these times.
I endorse no other US Senate candidate.
US House:
Joel Goodman - Independent Another guy with the guts to stick to Constitutional principles. He's got his head on straight on taxation, ending American imperialism (without reverting to isolationism), and localism.
I would also be okay with Roe. I've known the Roe family since childhood, and Dr. Roe's conservative populist stance on issues such as healthcare, taxation, and property rights are okay with me despite his imperialism lite.
TN State Senate District 3:
No candidates are up for me, so I do not endorse any particular candidate at this time.
TN State House District 7:
Rep. Matthew Hill - Republican He's a local boy done good. He's consistently voted no on most legislation coming through the TN house. While I have qualms with his vote to support state employee pension increases, I'd rather have that money going toward those sorts of mercy policies rather than toward an increased taxation and minimum wage increase administration. I also like that he voted against the tollway authorization bill since transportation is one of the legitimate roles of a state government.
Vote your conscience, people!
