For a long time I didn't want to see United 93. I didn't want to go back to all the insanity and fear surrounding 9/11 and I certainly didn't want to sit in a theater and watch it on the big screen. I finally got it through Netflix, mostly because of the awards buzz. I like the see all the films with buzz, so I knew I needed to break down and see this. I was right, it did stir up all the insanity and craziness I was feeling then, but at the same time, I'm not sure it was the great of a movie. If this hadn't been based on that awful day, it would have just been another hijacking story, nothing really stood out about it. I kinda feel guilty for thinking that, but it's how I felt. Of course, I cried, but I do that a lot. My roomie didn't want to see the movie, and I really don't blame her. She said it was sad enough hearing it from the other room.

Saw a play last night, The Second Time Around, which was really cute. An elderly couple announces to their adult spouses that they want to live together but not get married so they don't lose any of their Social Security benefits. The children are not happy, and hilarity ensues. The play was in a very small theater, maybe 50 seats, with two entrances. One is through the lobby, and you walk inches from the stage to sit down. The actors use this door as second entrance and exit during the productions. The other is on the opposite wall, also inches from the stage. We knew the show was sold out, but there were still two empty seats when the lights went down. During the first scene, the door opposite the lobby opens and you can see two people trying to come in. The actress on stage was trying hard not to loose it, and she did a great job considering the audience was going wild. So funny! The door closes, and the people I guess walked to the other door and come in through the lobby, and took their seats, walking right in front of the stage, practically inserting themselves into the action. I'd be mortified! If they'd been to this theatre before, they know that door opens right by the stage. I have not idea why it wasn't locked.
The play was directed by a friend, so I've heard about it from the first casting call all the way through reviews and tweaks. It's fun to see the thing come together and then to see it on stage. I wonder what he's doing next.

I'm currently working on a shopping list. We usually just wing it in terms of meal ingredients, but this week decided to be a little more formal in the planning. Hopefully this will prevent stuff from going bad because it hasn't been used. It doesn't happen often, but I get annoyed when it does. I don't like to waste the money. I was cleaning out the kitchen pantry yesterday in anticipation of the shopping and decided to remove all the tea boxes/bags and put them elsewhere. We now have almost an entire shelf empty. Apparently, I need to drink more tea and stop buying it. Good thing we like tea ;-)

Jake Gyllenhaal was cute on Saturday Night Live last night. I usually don't watch, but I got home at like 11:25 and decided to see who was hosting. He was totally cute doing the Dreamgirls skit. The others were just ok. I was hoping for more after the inspired "Dick in a Box" skit with Justin Timberlake, but I guess that was a fluke.
