I'm a jerk...and other stuff

I was at a meeting last night in South Boston and didn't realize that it was an hour later than I'd expected to be there and that Carissa had called and text messaged me (phone on silent). When I got out and checked my phone, I knew that she would be worried and felt awful for making her feel that way. We really do spend all of our free time together and we really both enjoy that. Stupid meetings.

In other news, the area of South Boston that houses the Westin Waterfront hotel and the Boston Convention Center looks like a god damned industrial park. I guess I've never really looked at it (though, we have walked through on foot en route to Castle Island). It's just building after building made of stone and dotted with green-hued glass. Very depressing.

Also depressing is this quote from a Bush news conference:
"Mr. Bush said the United States would contribute $230 million in relief and reconstruction aid to Lebanon, and would also prod American companies to help the effort."

That's great. Since we've obviously solved all the financial, educational and health related problems of our 300 million citizens, I'm glad to see we're finally giving back. Wait, what? Israel bombs the shit out of Lebanon and now we're giving Lebanon $230 million? The interests of international diplomacy aside (and can anyone actually define the US stance on Israel in relation to the larger wold?), why would we give them money? What purpose does that serve?
