SAG awards rundown

Jan 28, 2008 11:27

It's sad that I'm getting so attached to this otherwise mediocre award show, which is mainly for tv people and only includes acting awards. But if there are to be no Oscars this year, I must make my own fun.

So, without further ado, here are my SAG Awards prizes.

Best Line
Jane Krakowski's intro, wherein she described how the best part of being an actor is being able to transform yourself into someone else and then capped it with, "I'm Johnny Depp, and I'm an actor."

Table I Most Wanted to Sit At
The one that included Viggo Mortensen, Cate Blanchett, AND Todd Haynes. *sigh*

Best Dress

Rebecca Romijn
This dress was seriously gorgeous. Of course, it doesn't hurt that she herself is seriously gorgeous.

Worst Dress

Sandra Oh
I dub this dress The Mastectomy Gown. Why?

That's why.

Best Menswear on Man

VIGGO!!!!
Beard=questionable (although not as awful as the baby raper mustache). Outfit=love. Blue pinstriped suit. Long jacket. Red vest. SASH!!! Oh, Viggo, I love you. Plus, extra points for being a gentleman and giving Ruby Dee your arm up the stairs to accept her award.

Best Menswear on Woman (Plus Bonus Award for Best Use of My Haircut)

Julie Christie
Rowr!

Best Tribute to Heath Ledger

Daniel Day-Lewis's heartfelt, eloquent acceptance speech and subsequent dedicating of his award to Heath.
ETA: Here it is, transcribed: I'm very very proud of this. Thank you so much for giving it to me. I'm very proud to be included in that group of wonderful actors. For as long as I can remember, the thing that gave me a sense of wonderment, of renewal, the thing that teased me with the question how is such a thing possible and then dare you go back into the arena one more time with longing and self-doubt jostling in the balance. It's always been the work of other actors, and there are many actors in this room tonight, including my fellow nominees, who've given me that sense of regeneration. Heath Ledger gave it to me. In Monster's Ball, that character that he created seemed to be almost like an unformed being retreating from themselves, retreating from his father, from his life, even retreating from us and yet we wanted to follow him, and yet were scared to follow him almost. That was unique. And then of course, in Brokeback Mountain, he was unique, he was perfect. That scene in the trailer at the end of the film is as moving as anything that I think I've ever seen. And I'd like to dedicate this to Heath Ledger.

Worst Tribute to Heath Ledger

Ryan Gosling and his sister wearing sparkly black ribbons. Sequins never bring dignity.

Best Maternity Outfit

Cate Blanchett
Duh.

Worst Maternity Outfit

Angelina Jolie
There's no getting around it. This is a muumuu. And a wrinkled one at that. And she'd NEVER have worn it if she wasn't preggers.

Best Marie-Antoinette Impression

Marion Cotillard
Just a hint of a panier skirt there and lots of volume. She looked stunning. Plus, her hair had sparkles in it. And she's French, which gives her a big leg up in the Marie-Antoinette contest.

Worst Marie-Antoinette Impression

Ellen Pompeo
Big bow on the right side there. Bad gathering. Wrinkled looking. Yuck.

Best Marilyn Monroe Impression

Sara Ramirez's Gentleman Prefer Blondes style mermaid dress

Worst Marilyn Monroe Impression

Jena Malone's take on Some Like It Hot Marilyn
Gah!

Best Square Neckline

Diane Lane
OK, it's not perfectly square, but that's a pretty damn square neckline, and it looks lovely on her.

Worst Square Neckline

Tichina Arnold
This dress is so pretty from the waist down. From the waist up it's an ill-fitting costume from a Jane Austen movie.

Best Overall Trend
Men in 3 piece suits (see Viggo, Brad Pitt, and Ryan Gosling above). Viggo and Brad pulled this off. Ryan did not. But points for the formality of it. And points, too, to Javier Bardem who went for the formality, too, by buttoning his jacket when he got up on stage to accept his award.
