Gerard has been planning this night for a little over a month. After countless phone calls to and from his really not helpful - Mikey stop fucking laughing it’s romantic dammit - brother, a pair of almost completely warn through the heels Chucks, and a bunch of very confused, but mostly angry looks from the citizens of Jersey, he is finally ready to surprise his boyfriend.

The apartment that he shares with his longtime boyfriend Frank is almost completely dark; the only light is coming from the soft glow the many scented candles he had strategically placed around their home to set the mood. Outside the Jersey air is perfect. The wind is calm and cool, making the weather just chilly enough to wear a jacket but not cold enough to make a walk under the stars unbearable.

The black haired man smiles brightly as he looks out the window to see his tiny boyfriend making his way home from work, his tattooed hands buried deep inside the pockets of his jacket and his head bobbing along to his iPod.

To Gerard, the next five minutes were a blur. He ran through his mental checklist of things to do before Frank got home four times, checked his breath and his hair at least ten times, smoothed out his shirt, a few times, and nearly paced a track in the wooden flooring of their apartment before finally settling down on the couch.

“Honey I’m home!” Frank shouts cheerily barging through the front door to his apartment and stops dead in his tracks. “You’ll never believe who-” Frank pauses, his eyes going comically wide. “Whoa, Gerard? What’s going on?”

“Well Frankie,” Gerard starts getting up from his place on the couch and walking over to his boyfriend who is standing slack jawed by the open door. “Since today is our two year anniversary I decided to do something special for you.” He stated softly, sliding his arm around his shocked boyfriend’s shoulder.

Frank cuddled into Gerard’s body, fitting perfectly against his slightly taller boyfriend. “You shouldn’t have.”

“I wanted to Frankie,” Gerard says tilting his lovers face up so he could look him in the eyes. “Because I love you.” His voice had this silky tone to it, like the smoothest velvet ever made, making his tiny boyfriend melt into his arms and mutter an ‘I love you too’ in reply into his pale neck.

Gerard presses a kiss to the top of his boyfriend’s head and steers the smaller man back outside their apartment. “Come on baby, let’s go for a walk.”

“Okay,” Frank agrees breathlessly, so touched that his boyfriend would do something so special for him that his hazel eyes were getting just a little misty.

“Let’s go then,” the older man says guiding his partner out of their apartment, stopping only to lock the door and wait for the slow as fucking molasses man, how long are we going to wait, elevator. Then, they were out into the cool Jersey air.

It was about late afternoon when the men walked out of their building holding hands; the sun was just setting over the horizon. Beautiful orange and red hues outlined the old and crumbling buildings that lined the streets of Belleville.

“Where are we going Gee?” Frank asks swinging their clasped hands back and forth.

The taller man just grins down at Frank, his eyes twinkling and says mischievously, “You’ll see.” Frank pouts up at his boyfriend and opens his mouth to retort but Gerard just ruffles his hair and kisses him on the nose causing Frank to scrunch up his nose like a bunny. Gerard mentally cooed at his adorable boyfriend. “We’re almost there Frankie, just another block.”

“Fine,” Frank replies a small pout still in place as they walk just that much faster to get to their first destination.

A few minutes later their standing in front of one of the first bars that Frank’s old band, Pencey Prep played at years ago. It was run down and dirty, like most of the bars in Jersey. But it held a special place in Gerard’s heart.

“What are we doing here Gee?” Frank questions bemused, stepping closer to the brick building, and standing on his toes to look through the grimy window as memories came flooding back.

“Do you remember this place Frank?” Gerard asks striding up behind the shorter man and wrapping his arms around his waist.

“Of course I do Gerard,” the younger man turns in his boyfriend’s arms and looks up into his eyes. “It was the night we first met.”

Gerard smiles and kisses Frank’s lips gently. “You were so gorgeous up there on stage,” he runs his fingers through his boyfriend’s brown hair and cupped the younger mans cheek. “I didn’t think I had a chance in hell with you.”

They stood there for a while just reminiscing in past memories until the sun turns from an orange hue to a purple causing the street lights to shine.

“Come on Frankie, I’ve got two more places we have to go to.” Gerard says grabbing his boyfriend’s hand and dragging him down the street to their second destination.

It takes them about ten minutes to get to the next place, the park about two neighborhoods down from the street they grew up on. It was one of the only safe parks in Belleville, dubbed ‘safe’ because they haven’t found a dead body buried in the sand for about two years.

Gerard pulls Frank over to the set of swings in the middle of the playground and plops down on the sturdiest looking one. It gave a small groan and sank a bit, but it didn’t collapse under his weight. So he counted it as a win and gave a little swing.

When he heard a familiar groan and clank of chains, he turned to his right and gave his younger boyfriend a gentle grin. “Do you remember this place Frankie?” He asks grabbing the other man’s hand.

Frank gave a small dreamy sigh. “We had our first kiss here.”

“That’s right baby,” Gerard got up off of his swing and kneeled down in front of Frank. “You looked absolutely gorgeous that night too.” He tells his boyfriend and gives him a firm but sweet peck on the lips.

Reaching out, Gerard cups the side of Frank’s face and runs his thumb lovingly under the younger man’s right eye. Frank leans into the touch and lets out a small kitten like purr.

There’s a light rosy blush high on Frank’s cheekbones when Gerard pulls his hand away to take Frank’s hand and pull him up from the swing. “We’ve got one last spot to go to,” he says interlacing their fingers together again. “It’s gonna be a little ways to walk, but I really want to show you this place.”

“Okay,” Frank answers, a little breathlessly letting himself be dragged down the sidewalk toward a small patch of woods behind the park.

The sun had finally gone down a few minutes later, making the air around them become a little more crisp and chilly. Frank shivered in his light army jacket as a cold gust of wind came blowing across his already frosty red cheek.

Seeing his boyfriend shiver, Gerard wraps an arm around his waist and pulls him closer to his own body, warming him up with his own body heat. “Don’t worry Frankie, we’re almost there,” Gerard whispers into the younger man’s ear, bending back a rouge tree branch blocking their way so they could get past unscathed. “And here we are.”

“Oh wow,” Frank mutters hazel eyes sparkling while he takes in the scene in front of him.

They were at a lake. A lake he didn’t even knew existed, with two long wooden docks disappearing down into the water. A light fog had just set in making the lake look gray with gave it this slightly haunted feel and the mountains on the other side look nonexistent. It was an absolutely beautiful sight.

“I didn’t even know this was here,” Frank murmurs taking a few small steps forward, so just the tips of his toes were on the wood from the dock that didn’t look like it would fall through if he walked onto it.

Gerard follows his boyfriend, wrapping both arms around his petite waist. Frank lets his head fall backward to lay on Gerard’s shoulder and folds his hands into the taller mans. “I found it a few years ago. I was in a fight with my parents about art school so I took off. Almost broke my ankle running through the brush, but I think it was worth it.” He whispers, his breath coming out in tiny puffs tickling the back of Frank’s ear.

They stood there in silence until the full moon rose into the midnight sky, making it glitter as it hit the water.

“Hey Gerard,” Frank says turning his head slightly to look at his boyfriend. “I don’t remember this place though; you’ve been bringing me to places we have history at. What’s the deal?” the brown haired man asks before he sighing happily and snuggling deeper into his lover’s arms, who started to unwrap them from his boyfriend. The younger man makes a distressed noise and turns around making grabby hands at Gerard to cuddle him again.

“You will,” Gerard replies kneeling down onto one knee and digging into his jacket pocket. “Frank Anthony Thomas Iero Jr, will you marry me?”

Frank gasped as tears started to stream down Frank’s face as he nods his head rapidly. “Yes, oh my god yes. Of course I will!” he hiccups falling ungracefully to his knees.

Gerard beams so brightly he puts all the stars to shame, takes out the small silver wedding band out of the black velvet box he has been searching forever for, and slides it onto his fiancé’s finger over the tattooed E. Frank sniffles a bit and laughs before lunging forward to kiss the hell out of Gerard.

“You’re such a hopeless romantic,” Frank murmurs into Gerard’s neck as he places sloppy open mouth kisses along his Adam’s apple.

“Only for you baby,” Gerard says running his fingers through his fiancé’s brown hair and looking out to the moonlit lake. “Only for you.”
