Entry #A-10: "Affections"

Well. Summer doesn't feel like Summer... it's in the 50's, and all-around dismal and damp and chilly.

List. List list list list list...

1. My violin is still in the shop. I'm devastated, because while it's being fixed (about $1300 worth of work, amigos) I have to settle for a very cheap instrument with a furry tone. Which I don't like. I miss the sharpness of MY instrument, Johann, damn it.

2. I have a job. I work at "Truffles", a store whose owner is autistic-ish, like me. So, we're at a disadvantage already. But he seems to consider me some kind of super robot he's rented for minimum wage hourly. I'll come into the store to open, and find that whoever closed did a terrible job. So, between cleaning up and getting stuff ready for the day, I'm lucky if I have time to breathe. But when Jim comes in, he will come up with tasks that aren't particularly important at the worst possible times. And many of them. So, in the end, I run myself around until my feet hurt trying to do everything and ultimately accomplishing nothing. Very, very frustrating. Some points in the day, I feel like sitting on the floor and crying, but the tips are occasionally good for a waitress in my town, so it could be much, much worse.

Ah! Another thing! He says that it's "perfectly OK if I ever want to come in and play my violin for the customers. Like, while I'm on break, or something." Like HELL, I'm going to come and entertain customers on my break. If he wants me to play violin, he'd damn well better pay my hourly professional's fee.

3. This was the summer I designated to read as many classic novels as possible. So far, I'm elated and encouraged by my progress. Since May 28, I've read...

A War of Gifts, by Orson Scott Card
Crime and Punishment, by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Celebrated Cases of Sherlock Homes, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
As I Lay Dying, by William Faulkner
Light, by George M. Harrison
Across the River and Into the Trees, by Ernest Hemingway
Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut

Now I have to work on the fact that I'm becoming an insufferable, pretentious git.

4. I have the great honor of playing L in a multi-fandom RP. It's fun and gives me an opportunity to strut my intellectual stuff. Better yet, the RP has a phenomenal Light, so things are good in the creative arena.
