District 9
Just got back from it. Wow. Color me surprised by how good it is. Very violent and quite depressing, but thoughtful and intelligent and very rewarding in the end. Similar to Alien Nation in many ways, but with striking differences in other ways. This and the Hurt Locker are the two best films I've seen this summer. GI Joe and Transformers 2? They need to watch District 9 and see how action is done.
Overall, highly recommended. The best SF movie I've seen in quite a while. This first-time director is already being compared to early James Cameron. Only time will tell if that is true, but he's off to one hell of a start!
