Probably 5-10 minutes before 9 is best, since we have to cross the roads etc.
And yes, Eileen is right, the hunt for today's class was absurd. Then again, the requirements of the class we went to this afternoon were also absurd - definitely aimed at PhD students with more time on their hands than us poor MA students with an eye on our Latin exams, and he wanted to make it even more time-consuming until we all shouted him down. I'm pretty sure at one point he mentioned a 10 page bibliography too, that we'd have to get done by the third week or so!
Another class I won't be taking. Medieval Spain, here I come, I think...
Haha, yeah, we did shoot him down pretty quick about that, huh? He didn't seem to take it too personally though, which I thought was a point in his favor. So you're not going to take it? *sob* I'm going to check out one more social history class tomorrow before I decide which one to take.
Which one? The early modern social history with Terpstra? I looked at that and thought about it, but the description didn't sound that interesting after all, it's from 4-6, and the room number is VC111 - and after the Medieval Church debacle (which was supposedly in VC211), I didn't want to go through that again. If it is that one, I'd suggest emailing Grace so that she can check to make sure it is in that room and not in some other room after all.
I think the one today would just mean too high a workload, and his expectations seem a little too high to me. It might be better than it currently seems, but I don't think I'd be able to find the time to do all the reading he seems to want, do a professional review and write a publishable article, not with the Latin exam looming.
Yup, that's the one--ugh, not too happy about the 4-6 slot. The later in the evening, the worse shape I'm in. I'll see how it goes tomorrow. Will be so mad if it isn't VC111 after all.
Yeah, Social Change IS asking for a lot of work. I'm pretty worried. The Latin exam is a lot of pressure--I'm dreading April cause we're all going to be freaking out... heck, I'm stressed already.
I totally agreed with you in class re: the need to curb the work a bit (did ya see me nodding my head like a nut?). I guess our profs know how much pressure the exam is, but still--I mean, having our whole degree riding on it is nothing to sneeze at.
I'm in the same boat as you, I think - the Latin exam is going to be panicworthy enough without the amount of work social change would require of us. I know Rigg keeps saying we should concentrate more on Latin and not worry as much about our grades in other classes, but I'd like to keep my perfect GPA if possible, and I think to be able to do so in social change woul dmean not passing the latin exam, or even coming near.
And yes, I did see you nodding your head like a nut. :) Glad I had some support when I said that and that it wasn't just me that thought there was to much going on.
by the way Eileen - as per your email, would you mind photocopying the Peter the Venerable thingy for me and putting it in my mailbox? Let me know how much the copying costs too.
Nick and mediaevalrose--no problem, it'll be in your boxes by tomorrow afternoon, if not earlier. Don't worry about the copying--petty change, petty change *waves hand magnanimously* :D *changes to princess wave*
Oh, Miri--I'd be interested to know if an unusual amount of drilling or whatever establishes itself as an annoyingly regularly-occuring phenomenon outside F204's window during your seminar. We seemed to have the U of T construction team set up right outside every week, bang-on 9am.
