It's a mighty old night

It's a mighty old night,
and I've bought you some socks,
some for the wearings'
some for spendin' my bucks;
'Cause the night was so young,
when I left you, townbound,
and it's youth that causes us to be unentertained.

Besides, in the pit,
I could not just sit,
cause I pittied you, for your long and black beard;
and the socks that I bought,
will surly enough
get you a mile or two out of here.
