CHARACTER:
Name: Ushiwaka (Waka)
Source: Okami
History: SPOILERS ABOUND. BEWARE, ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE.
The last remaining member of the Moon Tribe, which mysteriously vanished after some unknown catastrophe drove them from the moon's surface, Waka's past is wrought with terrible survivor's guilt. Having fled the moon on the Ark of Yamato to the Celestial Plain, he lived amongst the Celestials for many years before Orochi's appearance. After a long, terrible battle against the creature beside the Gods themselves, Waka foresaw Orochi's death at the hands of a mortal man named Nagi. Amaterasu, the sun god, dragged Orochi down with her to the Mortal realm to continue the battle.
Meanwhile Waka gathered the Celestials on board the Ark of Yamato to flee from Orochi's terrible destruction, unaware that the Ark had been boarded already by legions of fell beings under the command of Yami, the Emperor of Darkness.
The Celestials were slaughtered, and the Ark came crashing down to Nippon, unleashing a terrible curse on the land.

Waka escaped, waiting for Amaterasu to reincarnate and fight with him against Yami, taking back the Ark in the process. However, although the reincarnation took a single mortal generation, the sun god was weakened from her original state, driving Waka to strike out on his own instead of dawdling in one place to wait for Amaterasu to regain her powers.
Which isn't to say he didn't run into her and her Envoy Issun. Waka and Amaterasu met several times, the first of which Waka tested the god's abilities in a fight. Other times he would offer her guidance in the form of riddles and seemingly useless prophecies that would later come true in an unexpected fashion.

Eventually Amaterasu became strong enough to enter the Ark of Yamato, driving away the creatures lurking in it's underbelly before confronting Yami, who had already disarmed and defeated Waka. He had enough strength left to deflect a killing blow that had been intended for the sun god, but in return was knocked off the platform and fell a great distance into the abyss below. It is assumed he halted his fall, and returned on a floating disc just in time to greet the newly empowered Amaterasu, once again at the height of her power.

The two victors piloted the Ark to the heavens, returning home after a long and tiring battle spanning decades.

Personality: Frequently seen as a largely carefree and flippant individual, Waka isn’t someone easily read or to be taken at face value. While he doesn’t seem to find a reason to ‘sweat the small stuff’, as the saying goes, he does have the brains to know when to take things seriously. Once he devotes himself to something, he will go to great lengths to accomplish his goal - even as far as to sacrifice himself, as seen during the battle with Yami. All in all he much prefers to leave the spotlight to another player (Ie. Amaterasu in this case) while offering subtle redirection here and there to keep him or her on track. This could be a faucet of his survivor’s guilt in operation; since he will only take it upon himself to complete a quest if a quick and decisive end can be found, leaving the little nuances of the larger picture for a more capable individual to handle.
All seriousness aside... Waka is insufferably cheerful and devil-may-care outside the usual ‘saving all of Nippon’ business. Plus the fact he can rile someone up in not only the native language, but in French too (See: Monty Python’s French Soldiers), it’s not much of a surprise to find out he’s made a bit of an art out of making light of a situation. It’s exceedingly difficult to get straight answers out of someone hellbent on talking entirely about your lack of fashion sense or an abundance of split ends.
In a nutshell, the Prophet is a very contrary personality. It would take a great deal of time and effort to understand how his complex emotions tie in to his reactions.
Biggest Fear: Yami's return/victory, tainting both Mortal and Celestial Plains with death and despair. Waka has the destruction of the Celestials weighing heavily on his shoulders and wouldn't wish the same fate on his worst enemy.
Powers: Capable of flight, astral projection, accurate predictions (To a point), and teleportation. Pillowtalk is also not a normal sword, seeming to be almost lightsaber-like rather than simple steel.

Third Person:
Home.
It had been so long, he couldn’t rightly remember what it was like on the Celestial Plain before Orochi came slithering along and ruined everything like a thundercloud on a birthday picnic. At least with the serpent close to being sealed away once again he was one step closer to the Ark of Yamato. Amaterasu was too weak yet to face the Emperor of Darkness tucked away cosily in the underbelly of the craft; Waka didn’t need to prophesize to know that it would be some time yet before the sun god arrived at Laochi Lake. All he could do now was to simply stay back in the shadows and intervene when he was needed.
Which, incidentally he was about to do at the moment.

Comfortably settled in the crown of one of the tall, proud trees populating Agata Forest, the Prophet idly tapped his flute against his chest, his arms crossed. The revival of the Guardian Sapling within the Forest was a small feat for a god, but that was to be expected. Amaterasu was only a fraction of the strength she had been during her last mortal incarnation. The good news was she was growing in power much more quickly than he anticipated - testing would be necessary to make sure she would be able to survive battling with Orochi.

A hint of a smile ghosted across his placid face while his eyes followed a splotch of white loping steadily closer across the forest floor. The sun god would survive, he knew.
First Person:
[Audio/Text]
“--Q’uest que c’est? “

[There’s some shuffling noises, followed by rustling of clothing. The Jigoberry gives a few plaintive beeps as fingers accidentally come in contact with the keypad. A muffled chuckle follows, which grows louder, indicating the device being oriented in the correct position of screen-upwards.]

“Ah! I see. It’s been so long since I’ve seen one of these... ”

[The audio feed cuts off, replaced by a few lines of text. Waka seems to enjoy his aura of mystery.]

Would someone be so kind as to inform me what this charming little hamlet is called~?

Notes: Acts flamboyantly, FLAMING gay. But, in reality, is straight. Just a heads-up to stamp out questions as to how he'll be played.
AND, seeing as I’m from Canuckistan, his French is Quebecois-derived. Apologies in advance to anyone from France for the slightly skewed use of the language.
