"Its just make believe. You can't believe everything you see...on the news tonight."

After venting, talking to daveamongus and getting some sleep I feel much better. I still can't imagine what Matt must be going through right now.

I wish he'd get online. I may go call him.

After posting yesterday I went back to the cell to pack but I was offered a tour of the "death chamber" and went for that. I wanted to make sure that I saw them before I left, and it just so happened that I was able to go. It was a little odd to just go ask for the key:
"Uh...yeah. I'm trying to find out whom to talk to about getting the key to the *air quotes* 'Death Chamber?'"

I got plenty of pictures of this horrible little relic of Saddam era Iraq. And the floors of the gallows even still worked. It was a horribly sickening sound when we pulled the lever to make them drop.

We also got "confirmation" yesterday that Saddam was in fact here for 3 days in May.

There had been rumors that he was here after his testimony at his first court appearance. He was irritated that his guards spoke Spanish instead of English and he could not understand them. We have a provisional MP company here from Puerto Rico that will not speak English even when ordered to do so. A+B=C? Well one of the Sergeants in Headquarters Platoon tracked down the Puerto Rican's 1st Sgt and asked him. Supposedly there was a convoy that came in guarded by 4 Bradleys and 2 M1A1 Abrams tanks. At the center of that convoy was an armored personel carrier (APC). I do recall, and have pictures of Bradleys coming into the base, and the tanks waiting outside. But I do not recall an APC. If this IS true the irony is great! Saddam a prisoner in his own Abu Ghraib prison. If that isn' justice I don't know what is.

This may be the last update for a few days so I hope you all can just tide yourselves over with LJ 'reruns'. I suggest you just scan back to 2002 and start reading one a day until I post a new entry.

Okay...I'm done.
