We can't tell you how, but you owe us money

About a month ago I received a call from a debt collection agency expecting me to pay them over $1,600 for a debt I supposedly owe on a Visa card issued by a bank with which I've never dealt.

They are now at least the second owner of this supposed debt (well, third owner if indeed this debt actually exists in the first place) because a number of years ago I received a similar call from another agency about this matter. At that time I asked for some evidence that I actually incurred this debt; amazingly, it was the last I ever heard from them.

The lovely woman I spoke to this time insisted that the debt is mine even though she can't send me anything from the bank in question that shows there is a debt. I suggested that when they find some evidence, to send it to me. Dozens of voice mails later, I decided to play along again this morning. Although this woman actually acted like a person, she could no more give me any evidence the debt actually exists than the bitch who hung up on me the first time. She's going to send me the account number and she expects ME to contact the bank to find out what I owed them, if anything.

If I were a betting man, I'm betting this will happen shortly after I colonize Mars. For some reason, she didn't take my bet.
