kamiki vs. matsuyuki: kokoro no ito

You know, I think the world of Kamiki Ryuunosuke. He's talented, he's been very fortunate with his acting career and the boy can really carry maturity in his roles. But while I was watching Kokoro no Ito, I suddenly felt underwhelmed. It felt like he was struggling with this role. At times, he was nailing the emotions and at others, I was shocked to see him fall short of expectation.

This was an actor's battle between Kamiki Ryuunosuke and Matsuyuki Yasuko and Kamiki came out with a lesson learned, I think. The level of communication Matsuyuki had as an actress was stunning. She stole the show with her silent but defiant voice. As a mother, as a person, as a fighter, Matsuyuki was able to deliver a mesmerizing performance while Kamiki seemed only half there.

I recommend Kokoro no Ito. It's a wonderful drama special and to me, it's a landmark in Kamiki's acting. If this were a manga, this moment would a turning point, a wall that Kamiki just realized was in front of him the whole time. And it's Kamiki that will have to break down the wall or climb over it.

Sometimes, the pair were acting together and there was this undeniable flow and at other times, it was completely one-sided acting. I'm still surprised but I'm crossing my fingers in hopes that Kamiki will grow from this experience.
