I never bothered with KinKi Kids. They just didn't seem interesting to me. But time after time, junior references would lead back to these two.
Tsuyoshi.
Koichi.
I struggled to understand their appeal. I listened to a few of their songs and I wasn't in love, but I thought that the ballads were an interesting change of pace from the bubblegum genre of the younger JE groups. If I compared them vocally to Massu and Tegoshi, I found that I enjoyed the blend of TegoMass more.
So what made me cave into their awesomeness?
Takada Sho. Somehow, that kid convinced me to see Domoto Tsuyoshi's acting skills. I watched Ningen Shikkaku, the first TV drama that KinKi Kids starred in, expecting to be underwhelmed.
In the end, I cried and cried and cried watching this drama. Domoto Tsuyoshi was 15 when he played the role of a bullied child. It was his first acting role and he stole the show, completely floored me and made me cry like a baby.
And I think I fell a little bit in love with Domoto Tsuyoshi's talent then. So I ventured and searched for Tsuyoshi's solo work. The man is a genius. He is an artist, a true artist. He has a horrible fashion taste and unfortunate hair styles that make him look like a funny old man but Domoto Tsuyoshi is that IT that means cool. He has that sense of self-awareness in his music and in his acting that makes him appealing.
I'm seriously blown away by this half of KinKi Kids. Koichi is also talented but I'm drawn more to the organic and fashion disaster that is Domoto Tsuyoshi.
How could you not be intrigued by this?
