Bra for Bridesmaids dress.

Part rant, part in need of desperate help.

So I'm in a wedding in November and bought the requested dress. Unfortunately it does not fit right, so I am going to have to bite the bullet and get some alterations. Hopefully my regular person can handle it. It's a strange mix of material and also from David's Bridal and I just really don't want to pay ( Read more... )

I'm wearing this at my wedding in two weeks: http://www.barenecessities.com/elomi-maria-convertible-bustier-el8502_product.htm?pf_id=ElomiEL8502&search=

It's supportive. It's not comfortable.

Ha, well I'm pretty resigned to being generally uncomfortable on the day I have to wear this, as long as I'm not falling out of it. Does the back go low? That's been my main problem with this. Bra/lingerie piece fits and is supportive, but is obviously visible from the back. We aren't wearing shawls or sweaters or anything during the ceremony or pictures...I just don't want to look sloppy or have that all out there.

I wish they had a picture of the back online. It could work, and I'll spend the cash if it does, but I don't want to drop that much money if it's another thing that pokes out, ya know?

Would a racerback bra work?

No, unfortunately because the top part is like a see-through mesh overlay that then travels down the whole dress over the part that's strapless and then there's like a keyhole in the middle of the back that goes down to where the zipper starts. The see-through part is hard to see on a nude dress on that model.

Here's a link to the dress where it's a little more obvious about how see-through the top part of the fabric is. http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_long-mesh-dress-with-illusion-neckline-f15662 The video shows the transparency the best. It's even more obvious on a dark dress.

Since you need to have alterations done anyway, how about having your tailor/seamstress add a panel of nude fabric that goes partway up the back, under the sheer fabric? Yes, it might be noticeable through the keyhole, but she could probably tack the keyhole to the nude fabric to help keep it more closed.

This is a potentially good idea, but it might look especially visible next to other bridesmaids who are wearing the same dress. Nude fabric is so rarely my skin color (I'm so pale). But definitely an option to think about.

I have a Cacique bra that hooks on the sides (yes, both sides) and has the whole "Convertible strap" thing going on, which turns out to be a magnificent strapless bra.

Unfortunately, I don't know the style number or I'd share it. (And buy six more of these in every color.)

I used a Wacoal convertible/strapless bra at my wedding and it was fabulous. Go to Dillards. The old ladies there will hook you up.

Closest Dillards is quite a ways from me, but I am going to check this Wacoal bra out. Thanks so much!
