I decided to make my first ModCloth purchase because of their current $20 off a $50+ purchase deal for first-time customers.
(Which, by the way, if you want me to refer you for the $20 off coupon code, just let me know in the comments before 10/3, when the offer is past expiration!)
I bought:
The
Backyard Betty Top in Midnight in a size 3X (bought by the size chart; I'm typically a women's 2X or junior's 3X). It skims my torso well (even with my 42HH bust) but gapes once I sit. The elastic sleeves are really uncomfortable & the material feels cheap. The collar keeps rolling up. I guess I also realized that the scalloped collar is less my style than I expected, but I still think the top is hella cute. I just wouldn't pay the $47.99 for it. If it's your style, it might be worth the price-tag - I would recommend sizing up, then maybe pinning down the collar & snipping the elastic sleeves?
I also ordered the
Leafing Town Necklace, which is really cute! I like that it's lightweight, but it does seem delicate. It was $14.99 before my coupon & that's the most I would pay for it. It's about Forever 21 quality. Also, as a note, I added a necklace extender to it before taking the picture.
Item #3 is the
Stitch Upon the Stars 2014 Calendar, which is actually high quality, though very small given the $23.99 pricetag - it's 5" x 7". I'll likely keep it though, because it's unique & will go perfectly with my room once I paint it a deep purple this winter. It comes with an embroidery needle so you can weave its glow-in-the-dark thread through each month's constellation. Everything is included aside from a pair of scissors.
Lastly is the
Frame of Radiance Jewelry Holder, which is the item I was most excited about. I was hoping it'd be more of an olive green frame, but it's pretty turquoise, as well as the plants in the background (which doesn't photograph well, but they're practically neon turquoise). I'm keeping it regardless - it's a cute, unique frame, and the $39.99 before coupon is worth it to me since if I were to make this myself, it'd take a lot of time (I am not particularly handy...).
Overall, I'd buy from ModCloth again, but wasn't impressed. I'm a size 20 & am probably a 3X/4X in their non-stretch clothing, which makes it seem a lot less accessible than what they make themselves out to be. Or maybe that is just with the top I ordered??
Pros: unique styles, quick free shipping & returns, good customer service (you can always message them with specific item sizing questions), seems to genuinely be pushing designers to expand their size range to include plus
Cons: low- to average-quality clothing for high-end department store prices, sizing not as inclusive as it seems, coupon codes are rare
