Is this possible?
Okay, no, of course it's possible: I've seen so many of you do it. What I mean to ask is, how do you do it?
Right now I'm a substitute teacher, so I sort of treat every job assignment like an interview or a first day of a permanent position: I want to impress the administration and the staff, but I also want to look professional and appropriate for the classroom. The school where I do most of my subbing is the school where I hope to have a permanent position one day, so I want to look as great as possible.
Dressing like a teacher is easy in the winter: I have various button-down shirts that I wear under various cardigans and a few nice pullover sweaters. Spring is tougher: when the weather gets nice, I pull out my sun dresses as early as possible, but I'm not about to set foot in the middle- and high-schools where I substitute wearing a sun dress by itself. (I'm not super comfortable wearing a dress to work, anyway, mostly because I don't own any tights or nylons and bare legs just feel super inappropriate for a school setting.)
So mostly I think what I'm looking for is either advice or inspiration from you brilliant fatshionistas. Do you have a picture of your favorite spring workplace outfit? Any general advice that you keep in mind while you're dressing for work? Anything at all? I mostly shop for this stuff at thrift stores and livejournal communities because I can't really afford in-store Lane Bryant prices, but all I really need for now are a few staples, right?
