Hello lovelies! Its been awhile :) Things have been a little nuts lately.
So, my school has a polo club and I went to one of the meetings/practices and fell in love with it. I've always loved horses, and I've ridden a little (some western classes as a wee thing and then farting around on trails with my horsey friends), but it's been a while and I'm fundamentally a beginner.. especially because it's English and I've never ridden English.
So I have questions! I really need a pair of boots I can wear to the barn and riding (so, with a heel) but aren't super expensive so I won't feel bad if they get gross. I'm also 5'2, wear size 8's and have 18 1/2 calves (sizing boots is an ADVENTURE lemme tell ya). I'm sad, Avenue has a pair that's perfect, good price... and not my size >:(
Also, does anyone have any ideas for how to deal with posting? My inner thighs are in SO much pain- it's a good ouchie, but it's definitely an ouchie. I know the only way to strengthen them is by... you know, posting, but I also don't want to hurt the horses back while I'm learning and flopping all over the place. Oh god, guys, the horse I was riding is a saint. We were trotting and I was practicing.. and I picked up posting really quickly, but I'd get off beat/lose balance and get flung forward over the horses neck, freak out internally and try to correct... and fall back into the saddle. And the horse would do what she was supposed to do and stop. And then we'd have to start allll over again. Is there a way, or exercise to strengthen up myself at home?
And has anyone else done polo and have recommended... things to read or see I guess? I didn't actually play other then handling a mallet and learning the right way to hold it (I was working on posting and reining and not complicating that by adding in smacking a ball around). Or just geek out about it and ponies :) I'm pretty excited about doing this- I've been dealing with depression and other crappy things for awhile, and I know this is a lot of things that I need- working, learning, being with an awesome group of people (seriously, I was the largest girl there which is a huge anxiety source for me in this kind of thing, and I felt so welcomed), and animals. There's been periods where suddenly I'll wake up and realize, oh right THIS is what it's like to be a person and I don't want to lose that feeling :) IDK. I'm excited about doing this. So please, polo/pony stories :D
